Twin turbo question
Twin turbo question
i want to put a twin turbo on my 95 z28 lt1. What all would I need to do to the car b4 I did this? It's already got lt4 hot cam kit, headers, exhaust, and custom programming.
Get your credit card ready ... it's gonna be a big one ...
You haven't given enough information about what your goals are with the car, if you want realistic responses, you need to provide lots of information about the car and your goals ...

How much hp do you want?
Use of car (I am guessing daily driver)
Are you going to build a motor?
Are you going to run aftermarket dfi?
Things you will need to make a system
-Turbos (prob internally wastegated)
-Headers (turbo headers use stainless..)
-Intercooler
-BOV
-various tubing for pressure side
-downpipes
misc things clamps, rubber hose for connecting tubes to intercooler, vaccume lines, oil drain and pressure lines,
Prob going to run you in the 5-7k range building your turbo system from scratch if you choose parts well and get good deals.
You will need a short block of some sort (whether a stroker or what)
DFI computer is very recomended (IMO)
Fuel system of some sort to support needed fuel. (including fuel injectors)
camshaft to compliment the turbos better.
(I am assuming you took into account rearend, clutch, etc..)

ok well hp really doesn't matter to me. What ever hp it takes to run around 10's or 11's i guess. Yes it is a daily driver and I really don't want to change engines.

*sigh*..............how old are you?
do yourself a favor.............just forget about turbos, its not gonna happen for you.
go buy a nitrous kit and have a shop install it for you.
Little money involved with turbos is not usually a hand and hand thing. If you are not wanting to move things around the engine bay then in all honesty you only have a few choices for a turbo system but if you are wanting 10's with a lt1 and no engine only using a turbo system better save for a rebuild cause the engine just won't hold. Some can get it to hold for a while but its inevitable.

Well thansk for your help although most of you didn't help much and just told me i was stupid. Anyways the car is running 11's right now with the stuff I have already done so I figured 10's would be that big a problem. Oh well maybe supercharging it will be easier.

first of all.......bs.........you are not running 11's with hotcam/headers as the mods you listed.
you said you do not want to mess with your engine or get too expensive.
well we are trying to explain to you that it wont happen the way you want to do it.
running a supercharger, and to a lesser degree a turbo, and running the boost you need to hit 10's, is going blow your engine eventually because the stock engine does not handle boost for very long.
a supercharger kit or a turbo kit is going to cost you about $3000-4000
in order for you engine to survive long, you need a forged bottom end, which will cost you about $2500 including all the parts and labor.
and if you dont want to appear "stupid".........then you should probably change your sig so it doesnt have 3 grammatical errors in only 1 sentence.
This space for lease.......
I usually don't join in on threads like this but.....
So you have an LT4 conversion and that's taken you into the 11's? Gotcha.....so exactly what mods do you have besides LT4 intake, heads and a hotcam? Oh and the headers....I can't forget about the headers. I take everything back, you are definitely in the 11's. Well in order for you to get into the 10's you should descreen your MAF, TB bypass and desensitize your knock sensor....that should do it for you. You say you're already running 11's with what little you have done to your car but in your previous post, you say you want "What ever hp it takes to run around 10's or 11's i guess". Sorry but 350 does not an 11 second timeslip make.
Alright...now on the serious side. You should take a step back and listen to everyone who has posted here. They, as well as I, are not trying to be a$$hole's...they're just trying to explain to you that the expectations you have with how little you are willing to put forth....the 10's and especially the twins are not going to happen.
You want to spend as little money as possible but you are failing to realize that you just can't slap on a turbo kit or an F1 and expect to last more than halfway down the track. You WILL need to build up your bottom end for the amount of HP you state you want. There's no way around it.....a rebuild is necessary and if you don't do it, your car will make it necessary for you.
So let's say you don't stroke it because you're on a budget so you use the stock crank which is pushing it a little. So you're still looking at around $1500 or just a bit more when all is said and done.
Next....the power is in the heads. You say you have an entire LT4 conversion but you'll still need to gut out the heads and match the intake. Conservatively for a good port job (Lloyd) you are looking at a conservative $1K.
Now let's say that you just go with a single turbo PTK kit with a T66 since you're on a budget and the T66 will support just over 700HP...that's still $3650.
And that's not including inectors, fuel pump, etc....we won't even get into FAST or any other system.
So easily you are looking at $6K+ and that is a VERY conservative estimate.
FWIW...you may want to do a little more research before just coming on and saying that you want 10's on a budget while keeping all your creature comforts.
