Post Silverado SS and Escalade

I know this is off topic.. but it is linked to upcoming vehicles.... Well we know that the first SS concept kicked butt.... what I want to know is.. since we were doomed when we realized the cadillac engine would be in the SS, i was wondering how come the 580HP twin turbo version is not allowed in the SS, it seems to have everything ready.. AWD and the engine from the Eascalade.. granted i didn't read too many articles on that truck... but why couldn't we get something like that... Formula79 can you shed some light.. just curious... i'm sure GM can muscle their way into anything(400hp TT trailblazer) the question is why aren't they doing anything.. do we all have to write to Bob Lutz or something... what is the deal, are the engines they produce not able to withstand daily driving conditions... please anyone shed some light here..

Simple answer: it would be better than the Vette then. There have been exceptions in the past of the "nothing faster or more HP than the vette" rule, but not in recent years. The F-body was basically equal but was advertised with underrated HP levels. It would be hard to put a 580 HP engine in a car and advertise it 175 hp less, people would think it was a weak motor.

Besides, a twin turbo truck engine presents all sorts of noise, emissions and durability problems for GM engineers to work around.

I would think it would just squash GM's truck milage rating... what kind of milage would that get?

Ten gallons to the mile ??

Another thing to throw in the mix is how do you engineer longevity and reliability into the power and drivetrain with 580HP on tap. Sure you can throw lots of power in anything, but getting it to live consistently without issues is something that's not much considered by many. Wouldn't be much fun to have 580HP vehicle that's in the shop constantly.

Yes, the warranty would be covering all the parts that self destructed underthe 580hp.
An expsensive proposition. The engine could probably do it but the tranny and AWD system
couldn't hold out- esp since most drivers will be quite hard on it.

How come For* can add a supercharger with the L and give a warranty but the superior GM engine can't manage. Wouldn't it be reasonably safe to add a blower from the factory producing conservative boost say 4-5 psi... wouldnt the GM trucks be able to hold that.... tranny and AWD included... how hard would it be?

Ford uses their HD tranny in the Lightning
(same one the use in the Powerstroke)- they managed to squeeze the guts inside the smaller case. But then theres a diff between 445LBS and waht the TT 6.0L puts out (probably 100lbs or torque)

Maybe GM could do something similar- and maybe they don't have the will to so.
They certainly have great resources at their disposal.
