Are you sure 42" belt is correct length for belt?

I went and bought a blower belt fom Napa for my ATI P-1SC with 8# pullies. That sucker will not go on, and there is no way it will. Is this the correct length?

when you get a new belt they are really tight and they stretch to the right size when you start using them. when i had to replace belts i had to loosen every bolt that held the blower to the bracket to get the belt on and it still wasn't the easiest thing to do

make sure once you get the belt on though that you DO NOT tighten the belt very much. Just a little tension and let the belt stretch on its own from just idling for like 10-20min. Then re-tighten the belt and you should be good to go

So is 42" the right length?

I am telling you, that sucker is cutting across the pulley really shallow. No where near the edge where I can even think about stretching it by hand

Yeah it is the 42 inch and yeah it is tough. Obviously you have the tension pulley loose but just work it on.

Once I took the crank pulley off, put the belt on and then put the crank pulley in place and bolted it on.

I have the tensioner completely off. I wish I could take a picture for you. I guess I need to double check the length even though the part # indicates its 42"

Can you still read the part number on the old belt?... the number will end in 420 if the old one was 42.0" long.

The part number on the old one can not be read because my tensioner pulley locked up due to bad bearings and destroweyed the back of the belt. I did measure it, and it came out to 44" on the money. Maybe thats the measurement I need. Maybe a half inch shorter....but it came out to 44" inches exactly which makes me think it did not stretch. It would be odd to stretch to an exact dimension.

I called ATI today and they said 43.5 is the standard belt for 8 pound kit.

On P1SC with 6.45" crank and 4.50" sc pulley, ATI sent me a 41.5" belt (P080415). It was close, and by removing the pulley to fit it, I probably could have gotten it over the lip. But instead I bought a 42.5" belt (Goodyear 4080425) which fits well. I tried a 43.5" belt (P080435) but didn't like it -- too much slack.

On 8lb you need a bigger belt? Shouldn't it be smaller?

The drama conitinues.

Well, After an hour of trying, I finally got the 43.5 over the hub. I could not do it by hand. I had to get it partially on, then turn the car over and let physics do its work. Well, I then attempted to put the tensioner back on, but that did not happen because there was not enough slack in the belt to do so. I had to cut the belt off and go back to Napa and buy a 44". Looks like my original belt was the right length. I put it on, but did not tighten it to the line mark. But after driving it last night, I think I need to tighten it just a little bit more.
