first.........those are great numbers, esp on a mustang dyno.

but why is the horsepower peak so low in rpm........did you shut it down, or does it fall off?

A mustang dyno will read about 15% lower.

Even with turbo's? Quite often I have seen better numbers on mustang dyno's for turbo'd vehicles - since the load is much greater normally. Now this was normally with higher boost or smaller displacement engines, which may have had more problems spooling up completely, so they needed the extra load....

Speedworks' Mustang dyno is actually pretty conservative even for a Mustang dyno. Those numbers are pretty darn good on that dyno. It seems to read even lower than the other Mustang dynos in the Detroit area.

Chris yes...my buddy's Supra dynoed 353rwhp on a mustang dyno, then on a dynojet made 408rwhp. So thats about a 15% loss. With a turbo car you have to adjust the boost when on a dynojet though, so you are correct about the load issue.

Yea, I think what chris has seen is cars that are making "max boost". ie, if you have a boost controller that keeps everything at 14psi anyway, you wont see the bigger power on the mustang dyno. But if you are going for "whatever this thing will make" the mustang dyno will allow more boost faster. (more load)

Sorry guys, I didn't take offense to anyone’s comments. I just haven't been on the board since I posted this last night. I will try to answer everyone’s questions.

I am running about 7 ½ pounds of boost. Since this car is a daily drive I need to keep it reliable so Greg at Speedworks has it set conservatively.

There are a few reasons as to why the car drops off after 5000. The main one is that I have Garrett GT28’s for the turbos. These are small turbos that add the power in the low to mid range and not up top. I am ok with that as I see this car being more of a road course racer instead of a drag stripper. Also the kit was designed to fit in our engine compartments. That means having to use smaller turbos.
Another reason is that the turbos do not like my Corsa cat-back. Speedworks tells me that the Corsa is great for stock or supercharging but a Borla or Dynomax works better with turbo charging. It is possible that the car could pick up 20-30 in the HP and torque numbers if I change it. I’m not sure I will as I really like the sound of the Corsa. We will see what next year brings.

As for cost you will need to talk with Brad at Turboloctiy. They fabricated most of the kit themselves and are looking for another LS-1 to test the fitment of there jigs before releasing the kit for sale. I believe he is offering a discount for the person willing to do this. Once that part is finalized he will build you as much or as little of the kit you wish. You can contact him at the shop phone number 217-443-1984. Leave a message as he will probably be out working in the shop.

If you want to see a picture of the kit on the car there is one on Turbolocity.net Look for the LS-1 link. I will try to post more and better pics in the next week or so. Let me know if there are any more questions.

Tom

Do you have any pics of the setup? Are your turbo headers a log style or tubular, and where are the turbo's mounted?

The headers are somewhat similar to a short style header. Each turbo is connected to a header. The only problem with these headers is that they set up higher than the stock ones hitting the plug wires. We are working with MSD to come up with a custom set of plug wires that are long enough to go around the front of the motor and come up underneath the header. Meanwhile plenty of heat tape keeps the plug wires from burning up.

I don't have a pic on my computer here at work. I will try to post one tonight.

So the turbo's mount toward the rear of the engine then? What turbo's are you running?

Yes, that is correct Bill. It is a pair of Garret GT28's. These things are liquid cooled so there are lines coming to and from the cars cooling system. Being smaller the put a lot of power in the low to mid-range. The can also feed a motor making up to 750hp so I am covered if I do any engine modifications in the future.

Nice setup! Are those integral wastegates on those turbo's, or are they external?
