Serious question about STS Turbo.
Re: Serious question about STS Turbo.
if the fuel gets too hot itll vapor and the car wont run. thatll happen well before it explodes. that wasnt a problem on the sts car i saw. since the turbo is in the back im sure the EGT is a lot cooler then an underhood kit. that would also explain why the car ive been around takes forever to spool up with a 402 compared to an underhood kit on a 302.

The fact that you only posted one temperature is also wrong. Autoignition occurs at different temps for different octane ratings.

I'll say it one more time since you're too ****ing stupid to have seen it before when I posted it.... I didnt offer up my opinion on the kit.. some asked me, and I answered. Clearly people that dont like the kit shouldnt be listened to.. Only the people that love it.

Re: Serious question about STS Turbo.
Its okay 5.0. I value your response like anyone elses. I appreciate all the replies for my question. Thanks to all. Its not something i think about all to often, its just for piece of mind mostly. There are no stupid questions when it comes down to life or death.
Re: Serious question about STS Turbo.
There are at least 6 cars in Vegas with the rear mount turbo (most are custom, not STS kits). None of them have had problems with hot gas (vapor lock, fires, etc...).

The thoughts that went through my head were more along the lines that the turbo (at least I don't think) would get nearly hot enough to heat through the heat shield, and heat the gas tank enough to explode. I just didn't think my response through before I posted.Hey 5.0THIS, I was only busting your chops in my post. Kind of a carry on from a different thread. Even though I don't agree with you doesn't mean you shouldn't post your opinion.

Being the turbo is mounted in the rear near the gas tank from what i heared, and there is only the heat shield protecting the gas tank, is there anything that can go wrong with turbo heating up the gas and the car would explode with me in it? I mean if hypethetically you get gas dripping down onto the hot turbo, will that start a fire or explosion?
Even if they is nothing wrong with the gas tank and just the fact that the turbo is near the gas tank, will anything or could anything happen bad?
Appreciate the help.

Re: Serious question about STS Turbo.
Exhaust gas should be extremely hot back there coparedto muffler.
PV = nrT
As the back pressure is higher in a turbo setup, the temp is also higher...thats what i believe anyway.

Re: Serious question about STS Turbo.
I swear I read that the sts turbo doesn't get near as hot as an engine bay mounted setup because of its location etc. Could be wrong but either way I would get one of those kits without hesitation.

The air charge at the TB on an STS system is cooler than a front mount (non intercooled) but that's because the air travels a long way to the engine. I would imaging the rear mounted turbo itself is quite hot...I dare you to touch one!
