help me pick a custom cam for my new setup (thinking about a high lift cam)

first off .. heres my head flow sheet

lift Int Exh
100 74 51
200 144 113
300 206 161
400 253 193
500 281 214
600 301 227
700 309 235

im gonna have a 8.5:1 355, running 12 - 15 psi intercooled blower ... with 50-75 shot of nitrous (and some for the cooler)

i want the car to be mild, streetable, pass emissions, spin to 6200 ish ..

im thinking 220 / 230 ish in duration .. maybe a little more .. but the lift is where i need some advice on

i wanna make use of my heads high lift flow .. but im new to all of this boost stuff ... so im not sure what the downsides of a higher lift cam is .... (other than valvetrain wear) .. i have springs that support .700 lift .. so why shouldnt i get a custom cam made that has upwards of .650 lift ?

CC XE lobes #3192/3196 on a 116LSA with a 112 or 114 degree intake center line. Gives 224/236 @ 0.050". Lift with 1.6 rockers is .604/.625". You will need a spring with a rate of ~400lb/in to utilize a cam with steep ramps like these. You can't get any more lift/degree with a HR cam than with these lobes, and even these are pushing the limit.

If your car is an M6 you should see these those kind of numbers easily, probably more. You are going to need a lot of fuel. Have you thought through your fuel system?

for the fuel system, right now i have a 255lph walbro intank (low pressure version) which i probably "could" bandaind with a boost a pump .. but im gonna ditch it and go with an A1000 brook has for sale

on another note, what all do i have to buy, and what do i have to do go get that pump to work (im just getting the pump from him) gotta piece the rest together ... can i use my stock lines with the A1000 pump ?

im pretty sure that pump will be enough .. im also looking to swap my 36# injectors for 50#ers... and a nice AFPR.. im not planning on running an FMU though .. unless u advise me otherwise rich (or others)

thanx

hey payam, i got a 224/236 for sale, i told you a few times. you dont want it?

also i think youll be fine with your walbro and a BAP, i think rich is runnign that on his 700+HP car. and i think most recomend you should keep the stock FPR for some reason. and tune out the FMU.

For a little more lift you could always use some of the new 1.7 Scorpion rockers.. rumour has it they are only around $200 a set...

just a thought!

well he wants to pass emmisions, so the high lift may pose as a problem, i know some people in lt1 tech have gotten the 224 230 cams to pass with tunign and the 224 236 is slightly harder, the gigher lift wont help, but he can always swap down to 1.5 rockers for the testing.

roy: thanx man .. but for that price id rather buy one new and have it custom made to exactly what i want.. ur cam doesnt have enough lift if i end up using my heads... and i might want to get a 116lsa cam .. urs is a 114 ... etc etc .. so im gonna pass on that

and i also wont bother useing 1.7 rockers . im gonna get a custom cam, gonna do it properly .. im not a fan of BAPs and 1.7 rockers .. if u wanna do a job .. do it properly

well BaP is fine, there are many using it but to each there own. as for custom cam you might want to try cam motion in baton rouge La.

I have the Extreme 3192/3196 lobes (224/236) on a 114 in my new 383 short block. Problem is, it's still sitting in my garage.

I'll have it running in about 2 weeks with a 12 psi T-trim/Aftercooler. I'm using 1.6 intake/1.52 exhaust rockers, which gives me .603"/.593" lift.

Lift doesn't hurt emissions, overlap does.

By the way, I really doubt your springs are good for .700" lift. Very few springs are TRULY good for .600" lift. I just bought a new set of Comp 977's because the springs that came on my AFR's were only good for about .570". I tested them and am setting them up at 1.875" (very tall) installed height to get 145# seat and 420# open.
