Cog drive is hard on parts. The belts also wear a TON faster than serp. belts do. But, a lot of guys run cog on the street. Just depends on how dependable you need the car to be.

I was thinking the same thing. His car is susposed to be the test car. We will see though.

I personally wouldnt do a cog on a dailey driver, but I would on a street car.

Re: D1sc or F1 ?

Cog pulleys by design will not slip. This means that the second you let off the throttle the charger is forced to decelerate with the motor. Under boost closing the throttle causes a big pressure spike in the intake tract before the bypass opens. This causes a momentary high load on the blower & possible damage on a weak (non-race type unit). Some chargers will rip the belt teeth off under this situation. On a manual trans car, this happens on every shift.
A serpentine will allow some slip to ease the shock loads on the blower.

Also, there is no front to rear location from the cogged pulleys meaning that any misalignment or charger bracket flex will allow the belt to walk off the pulleys..... The idler has little control over the belt & is the only pulley with sides.

After pricing cog belts, you will not want to buy many spares.

Lonnie summed it up well. I am well aware of many long, long epics concering getting a cog setup to work right on a street car that is constantly on/off the throttle. As Lonnie said, it's especially bad with a manny tranny.

Wouldn't a blow off valve negate the loading of the blower coming off the throttle?

Yes it does, but it still takes time to react to the throttle closing & for the bypass to open.... even if this is measured in milliseconds.

The rumor comes from a pretty good source, a friend that works at ATI with an lt1 car. Well see though.

To be honest a F1-R will fit in an LT1 car but will require extensive modifications to get it to clear everything. Those of you who have a D1SC or F1 in an LT1 car know what I am talking about. Hopefully ATI will do something about their crappy brackets and tensioners.

Also how much power do you want to make?
