These Walker Cats : Why the $100 difference between the two??

Just bought two new cats as mine are sounding tinny now..

Upon purchasing I was told there were two Walker Versions (Universal fit).

Walker # 15032 - $119cdn ea. (List. $155cdn)
Walker # 15141 - $220cdn ea. (List. $318cdn)

Was told the 15032 cheaper one was not all that good and could fair Aircare and to get the 15141 which I did. $492.00 for 2 cats.

According to company websites, looks like the difference between the two is:

[Walker # 15032] (List. $155cdn)

Converter Overall Length (in): 13.25 in.
Converter Substrate Material: Ceramic honeycomb

[Walker # 15141] (List. $318cdn)

Converter Overall Length (in): 18.000 in.
Converter Substrate Material: Monolithic catalyst

So what exactly make the two different?? A $100.00 difference?? What's the pro's and con's of Ceramic honeycomb vs. Monolithic ?

Thanks

I tried a search, and only found cheaper prices. Rockauto.com has the 15032 for US$62 (even less on closeout) and the 15141 for US$122. The Walker website indicates that their premium converters work better because they have more precious metal catalyst. That would explain a significant cost difference.

You 92 uses the converter with the intermediate AIR connection on the side of the converter. That typically requires two separate beds of honeycomb materials, to that the AIR supply can be injected after the reducing section and before the oxidizing bed. A monolithic cat does not require the intermediate AIR supply. Might also be part of the difference in the two units you listed.

Can't answer your question with complete certainty.

Believe it or not, I just called 4 different places and NO ONE can tell me what exactly is the difference between the two that would make it work the extra $100. One is regular universial, the other is premium universial. Both have the AIR tube in them..

Hi,

As far as I could tell the difference is the length.

Part #15032 has O.A.L. of 13 1/4". Part # 15141 has O.A.L. of 18". Inner diameter for both is 2 1/4".

turns out a complete waste of my time! Turns out the cats are more than 2X larger than what can fix under the car. Unless the exhaust was dropped like 2 inches closer to the ground, there is no way it would fit. They are HUGE compared to the stock universals.. And am being told I likely would fail aircare with them due to them flowing much more than stock.

You may wanna try the magnaflow ODB2-california cats...if you have stringent emissions tests.

Good article on the differences in cats too, but basically what injuneer said, the efficiencies of them are the difference in price.
I used one on a Caddy and its doing fine. Jeg's can order them.
