All I have to pass is the sniffer test, no visual inspection at all, so I should be good...great, to update the budget with higher cost parts

The problem with the shorties is that most of them have 1-5/8" primaries. All the BBK's I have ever seen were 1-5/8". They will not be good at all for the kind of HP you are looking for (you don't indicate whether its at the flywheel or at the rear wheels). You need 1-3/4" primaries at that level, as noted in one of the earlier posts.

I had a set of JBA shorties, with stepped primaries, 1-1/2 to 1-5/8. They were great for the low end, but they choked the stock engine at anything over 5,000rpm.
