Re: What broke in your 4L60E?
I have a 1996 Camaro Z28. The Camaro has a 470 transmission. The transmission went bad. I took it to F-Body in MD. They replaced the transmission. Almost immediately the transmission would free wheel /Disengage when coating! When I asked for help, they requested that I bring the car to them and provide a demonstration, so a better diagnosis could be made. Later the transmission shift into first and stay there. The car was returned to F-Body. They replaced the transmission. The fault was identified as the following (Never drive around in anything but DR. Or else the computer gets confused and will not know how to shift up). Does this sound possible? F-Body did replace the transmission. At this time I do not have any problems; however, I leave the transmission in Overdrive all the time. Does anybody from the transmission world have feedback on this?

Since I was on the highway, I was already up to speed. 3, 4, and lockup were all working fine, but since I no longer have 1 and 2, I have no way of getting the car up to speed to comment on whether 3 and 4 actually still work. Reverse is still fine. I ended up ordering a Performabuilt, so I will be tearing the dead one apart when the weather is better.
