the beast is now standard eqip in all repairs done in gm units . even at dealers

 

I was going through some old picture files and found this one I took of the sunshell in a 700r4 I rebuilt.

Got off the highway today and found myself suddenly lacking 1st and 2nd. Virtually no forward motion in either gear, regardless of shifter position. I searched for a possible cause and came up emptyhanded. I'll hop back on and edit this once it's apart.

 

More details? Are you saying the tranny still pulled the car in 3rd and/or 4th only (and if so was the 3- 4 shift executing properly)?

Just asking since your post suggest 1&2 "lacking" ONLY. The 4L60e is a 4 speed tranny (+ converter lock), so will the car still move foward on it's own?




Are you taking it apart or someone else?

 

Since I was on the highway, I was already up to speed. 3, 4, and lockup were all working fine, but since I no longer have 1 and 2, I have no way of getting the car up to speed to comment on whether 3 and 4 actually still work. Reverse is still fine. I ended up ordering a Performabuilt, so I will be tearing the dead one apart when the weather is better.

 

Update: I started tearing down the dead trans, and so far it looks like the forward clutches are toast, with clutch material flaking off and hotspots on the steels. Also, the 3-4 accumulator had worn so much in the pin bore that it rocked enough to gouge the accumulator bore pretty bad. I haven't yet pulled anything that requires a spring compressor, as I don't have one at the moment.

 

Well I have learned allot about the 95 Z28 trans (4l60E) I believe thats what I have, but so far what I have discovered is that I may have a bad soleniod 3-4 and that mite fix my problem, but I am no tranny guy either and based on what I have read on here that may b my route to go as far as expence. I may still need to replace it all together. I just want a nice cruiseing camaro, it feels good to know there is power there and I have had a 89 rs for over twelve years and it was a dream to drive, miss it but the 95 apears to be even better but it is a electrical problematic car.

 

Just got my 96 Z running and it shifts fine starting out but it slips out of overdrive at highway speeds about 55 or 60. When I was going 70 with the cruise on it only did it once. Put in new fluid and filter and Lucus trans treatment, helped alittle. Does this sound like some kind of overdrive sensor failing, or is something inside the trans going?

 

I have a 2003 tahoe only has first no up shift and reverse works fine.

 

Check to make certain your computer is getting a vehicle speed reading.

Yes its getting a signal and it has no tranny codes

 

It's had a evap code and cat converter code

 

Are you certain it's 1st gear and not 3rd gear?

It's first gear only when I look at my modis scanner the computer is commanding upshift but is staying in first I can red line it still no shift,has reverse
