Inland Empire Driveshaft Question

I am putting an Inland Empire aluminum driveshaft into my 95 Z. The driveshaft comes with 1310 series U-joint. To the best of my knowledge my stock GM yoke fits a 1350 series, which seems a lot bigger. My question is does any company make a U-joint that will fit in converting from one side 1310 series to a 1350 on the other side(2 cups that will fit inside the holes for the driveshaft, and 2 to fit into the yoke). If not... will the smaller size u joint work wit the larger yoke? Do I need to replace the yoke to a smaller size? Any help would be appreciated because I'm trying to pin down a larger problem here. thanks

Re: Inland Empire Driveshaft Question

I installed a Inland Empire DS from Summit in my 94 Z. It just bolted right in. Didn't have to do anything. Did you order it special with the smaller yoke?

Re: Inland Empire Driveshaft Question

I'm pretty sure the stock 4th Gen DS uses 1310 u-joints. I had to get a 1310/1350 cross-over joint when I installed the 12-bolt with a stock DS.

Re: u joint questions

I am not sure why you'd want to use a 1310, but there are conversion pieces made. Call Denny's Driveshaft.

Re: Inland Empire Driveshaft Question

im not sure what the stock one uses but the cups on the end of the u joint off the original driveshaft are a lot bigger than the ones on the inland driveshaft... do they make a cross over u joint to go from 1310 to 1350?

Re: Inland Empire Driveshaft Question

I see you already have this posted in "Drivetrain", where it belongs. I'll merge the two threads there.

Re: u joint questions

stock steel driveshaft uses a Saginaw 3R.

1LE shaft uses 1310 w/ conversion ujoint to 3R for the rear end.

Not sure on the stock LS1.

3R and 1310 are close in size, but you can google for the details. As stated, there are conversions available for every possible combination....
