Trans Dip Stick

Well, I made a boo boo. I pulled the tube that holds the trans dip stick and spilled tranny oil everywhere, I tried to put it back in and can only get it half way through. Theres a rubber stopper of some sort keeping it from pushing all the way in. That and I have other things now in the way as well.

So a question, can I put RTV on the tube that goes into the tranny and will that be enough to hold the fluid in? Remember, the tube is in half way, I just don't want tranny fluid to leak when I'm driving.

Agree

Agree...if you use sealer..and not a new grommet..you will end up with leaks..sooner or later.

How and why is that? The fluid doesn't get that hot and if it works on cylinder heads and water pumps why won't it work on the dip stick tube?

Lol, you asked for opinions and got the correct remedy (apparently not what you wanted to hear) to satisfy "I don't want tranny fluid to leak when I'm driving". You can choose to do something else, but it might not have desired result.

I understand it'll leak, I just don't know why. I'll try the new gommet but the tube was hitting my bell housing, engine, firewall...no angle was working for me. How far is it suppose to be pushed in? I think I got it about 3/4" in but then it got stuck.

Is there a particular angle to get it in that I'm just missing?

If the dipstick tube is not completly seated it will not give correct readings.
