my gears now and goofy. I dont even use 6th at all (cam surge wont allow it under 75mph), 1st brings me so high. I would have to guess like 2.73's?..

well I need to get that out of there. I want to feel my power at lower speeds, right now im not in the sweet spot until 35-40mph.. I want that power at 15-20mph!..

So I was thinking 4.10;s?.. What do you think my rpms would be with 4.10's at 75mph in 6th?. think 4.10 is a bit much for a car driven a few times a week, about about 30% highway. ?

how do i find out what series carrier I have? is that the only info I need to order a gear set?..thanks for the help

 

You probably have 3.42 gears. At 75 mph and 4.10 gears my rpm's are 2050 in 6th gear.

wow. I am amazed that these are 3.42. I def think that 4.10's are my answer than that sounds like the kind of r's I want on the highway. right now im at 1650ish.. . and thank you much for the calculator shoe.

playing with the calculator I think I may even want a even lower ration (higher number). maybe 4.56?
do they even make that for out diff?.. think that would be overkill for a road car?.

You would have a 3 series carrrier with the stock 3.42 gears. Most people with M6s, opt for 4.10s as the best all-around (still being street driven). A4 people usually go with 3.73s.

 

ok thank you, I think thats what I will do. are all gear sets created equal? The diff is still going to be a weak point correct.

 

People like to say that Motive gears are quieter, Strange gears maybe a little less and Richmond noisier, but perhaps stronger. All will be at least as strong as stock. As far as noise goes, that is up to the installer. A good install can make any of these quiet (and they should be).

 

are 4.11 gears too much for an automatic stock transmission for a 97 z28?

 

4.10's on a Dana S60. At 75 mph I am close to 3K rpm. Not too bad but ya better get use to the exhaust humming.

If you want a better ride try this: No radio, Longtubes, no cat, magnaflow cat back. All poly suspension, upper and lower sperical rod ends instead of poly bushings, I don't think I could drive this thing more than 50 miles at a crack..... or maybe I am just getting older......
