Question T-56 Question

I found a T-56 for sale and just want to make sure I know what it is.
A T-56 is the six speed manual that comes in Camaro Z28's from 1993 to 1997right?
And it takes auto transmission fluid.

Thanks,
Chris G.

Yes, a six speed

Used from 93-02, but only 93-97 will fit 93-97, and 98-02 only fit 98-02.

Using auto tranny fluid? I have no clue about that since I don't have a t56.

Re: T-56 Question

Yeah, ATF is the recommended lube for the T56.

Re: T-56 Question

How come you can't interchange a t56 from an ls1 into an lt1?

The LS1 shaft is longer.

Re: T-56 Question

Can't you just put an LT1 shaft in an LS1 tranny and call it a day then?

Re: T-56 Question

I believe so . There's an issue swapping LT1 <<>> LS1 4L60E's as well.

Now that's just what those LS1 guys need... an LT1 guy telling them they have a longer shaft

Chris: Not all T-56's were created equally. The '93s have different ratios (and significantly lower torque ratings as well). Make sure you get a '94-'97 tranny.

There's some info here that might be useful. It's almost halfway down the page.

Re: T-56 Question

The transmissions are the same. The bellhousings/flywheels and the clutch actuation are different. LT1 is a pull type, LS1 is a push type.

Re: T-56 Question

The front plate, bellhousing and input shaft are different from ls to lt versions. Those 3 parts can be swapped to make an ls into an lt or an lt into an ls version. This does not include all the different clutch stuff. There are 2 different sets of ratios in the 93 boxes with 350 and 400 torque ratings. The 94-97 are a different ratio yet but 450 lbs of torque capacity.
