Str????

First off what is the STR number mean on a converter?

and how do you specify when ordering? Like from combination motorsports....can you just tell them what str you want? I plan on running drag radials and slicks at the track....so i need to get something that will match.

It's a somewhat slippery concept. The basic idea is that at stall, some converters will produce more torque than others. What isn't clear (to me) is if this is really independent of stall speed. This link is to the PI website and it is a decent essay on STR: http://www.converter.com/torqueratio.htm

In any case, you can't "specify" it. Nor do you really have any basis at this point to decide what the optimum STR would be for your combo. So, your best bet is to go with a converter that has worked for others with similar combos. Alternatively, call one of the major converter companies and discuss your situation with them.
