Starter doesn't always engage?

Here is a question . I have a 95 firebird 3.4 motor.
Question is concerning the starter.

When I go to start the motor, the starter doesn't always engage....often you just hear it spinning like crazy. After a couple of tries it kicks in and starts the car.

Is there an easy solution to fix this problem or generally do i need to replace the starter?

I am pretty sure that that starter has all its gear teeth..meaning I have not been trying to crack it while the motor was running.

Thanks in advance

Ok...think i researched this question using other posts on the same subject. I will try replacing the solenoid tomorrow.
Let you all know how it works out.
