Question

I hope this is in the right forum i read the above sticky and assume it is. I just bought a z28 with a 350 gm crate motor. the motor was put it in 1997. I was looking through summit racings catolog and found a head combo i was interested in. It comes with heads, intake, cam, lifters and says its a 420hp combo by trick flow specialties. My question is will the factory 5spd manual handle the power. I will be upgrading the rear end to a posi unit with 3.73s or 3.42s but will the factory rear be able to handle the power until i change rears?

Re: Question

What year of car?

Is the t5 a WC or standard?

Either way, its fairly hard to break things on street tires on the street as they spin before other stuff snaps.

Re: Question

Welcome to CamaroZ28.com!

Looks like you are mainly concerned about the tranny and rear axle. I'll move this to the "Drivetrain" forum for you.

You need to add info about the year of the car it is in. You can use the "signature" field to do that, so you don't have to type the info in every time you ask a question.

Re: Question

Those trannies wouldn't even hold up for long behind a TPI 350.

Re: Question

Yeah any recommendations on what can be done to beef up these T5s or an easy swap?

Re: Question

You can swap in a T56 6-speed. Will stand up to 600-700HP. Kits are available for the 3rd Gens, so you can use the LT1 T56, or Keisler makes a direct bolt-in T56 for the Gen 1 smallblock engines.

For a "world class" T5 or other upgrades, check out:
