Mcleod Street Twin Master Cyl Adjustment
Mcleod Street Twin Master Cyl Adjustment
Hey,
I just installed my new motor (LT1 383) and Mcleod Street Twin with adjustable master cylinder. I cannot shift to reverse with motor running and it can be hard to shift into first. Is it the rod adjustment and which way (shorten or lengthen) to get the clutch to completely disengage? I have searched, but turned up nothing.

Re: Mcleod Street Twin Master Cyl Adjustment
You might want to bleed the system to get rid of all the air first.
After that if it still does not disengage you need to lengthen the rod to increase the fluid volume actuating on the slave.
I ruined the synchronizers in a brand new tranny in no time because the clutch was not completely disengaging

Thanks for the reply. I have pumped and pumped the pedal trying to bleed out all the air. The hose on the bottom of the fill broke where it connects to the cylinder and all the fluid puked out. I changed it out and bled it with the same result. I adjusted the rod and now the release it way high. Still can't get into reverse without shutting car off.
Re: Mcleod Street Twin Master Cyl Adjustment
The first step on installing a master cylinder is to bench bleed it. A buddy of mine put the McLeod in his 99 SS, and pumped the living daylights out of it for 15 minutes, and no pressure. He had to borrow my Mity-Vac to bleed the system.
Re: Mcleod Street Twin Master Cyl Adjustment
Fast bleed method that has worked 100% for me:
Remove the slave cylinder from the bellhousing and let it hang with the hose fitting pointing upward.
Slowly push the rod in as far as it will go, hold it a few seconds in and then let it come out back again. I do this a couple of times and get rid of all the air in the system that way.
Having someone looking from the engine bay side checking the fluid level makes things easier.
As a prevention have some rags under the fluid deposit in case it overflows.

Thanks. Going to put a vacuum on it as that will be the easiest to do and see how it goes. Ricardo, I appreciate the help and will definitely do that once I can get it on a lift.
