M6+DR's+10 bolt?

I was wondering how careful I should be when going to the track on bfg dr's. I just had my rearend rebuilt with a eaton and 3.73's so i don't want to have to any more work back there for a while. Planning on a quick slip from 3000 rpms and going wot. Dumping the clutch is a bad idea i take it. I have heard some bad stories about m6 cars breaking the 10 bolt way too easily. I have done a search and have been researching this for a while, any help will be great. btw hoping for a 1.8 60' is that realistic?

Most people will probably agree that sticky tires, an M6, and aggressive launches is a recipe for destruction for you rearend even though it has new gears and posi. It is probably in your best interest to start saving up for a 12 bolt if you are going to race the car regularly.

This seemingly simple question is hard to answer precisely. Will it break the first time out? Probably not, but it might. Will it last "forever" if you take it to the track regularly? Probalby not, but it might. Bottom line is as stated above: don't do it unless you are prepared to replace it.

even when you are really carefull it can be a recipe for destruction on the 10bolts
i was cutting 2.1 60 foot times and still managed to blow out the spider gears in my rear but ya never know

Re: M6+DR's+10 bolt?

I was worried at first with the M6+DR's....then I went to the track a few times and thought it would be fine...boy was I wrong. I launched it on the street, got a decent hook....and BANG, just about everything in the rear broke. Carrier, spiders, ring gear, and axle...I am sure whatever broke first caused the rest of the stuff to break...but wow, i didn't think that would happen. My point is that you only get lucky so many times with the 10 bolt before something breaks...if you race-->plan to replace.

Re: M6+DR's+10 bolt?

Ive raced my dads 02 TA with drag radials and M6 didnt ahve a problem yet. I did squeek into the 1.9's 60foot but that was difficult for me with the track/conditions. I still spun the tires for a good 20feet but the diff. between dr's and stock tires are the dr's will hook after a sec. or two of spin where the stockers will not hook till you let off. it was 90deg. heat and muggy as hell so im sure the car wasnt makin optimum power both times out, maybe thats why it lived, but as stated above, if buying a 12bolt will be the end of the world for you, better stay away from the track till that changes cause you just dont know. Ive heard racers can go mid-high 11's no problem on stock rears/M6 all day long so it can be done. and the stock clutch will help the rear live longer cause it cant deal with the sticky drag radials and launching.
