how long will a street twin last?
how long will a street twin last?
how long will a street twin for lt1 last assuming it has light abuse? about 380 rwhp and no hard launches....occasional nitrous runs not sprayin through the shifts
Re: how long will a street twin last?
Should last forever under those circumstances..... I bough mine used out of a street driven 850HP/4000# 30th SS convertible that was also dragged frequently. I put a few track passes on it (5-6K clutch dumps) and maybe 15K street miles, then sold it as part of an M6 conversion package. The buyer installed it and it was still going strong last I heard.
Re: how long will a street twin last?
I have what I believe is the 2nd street twin made. Had to wait for them to finish testing LJ's so I could buy one.
This was late '98 & it is still going strong. Everything else has broken in the driveline at least once, except the clutch.
This is all I will install in the blower cars that I build.

Re: how long will a street twin last?
Ditto for me. Had one in my 94 formula blower car, 540rwhp, drove it for 2 years and dozens of passes. Took it out and put it in the next car, ran it for another year and sold it. Broke everything behind it at least once. Have on in the new car last year making 600rwhp, made 40 passes and ran a road course event. Looked new when we took it out. Best clutch made imho.
Re: how long will a street twin last?
How is it for daily driving and will it last longer than a conventional setup?? What did you use for a slave/master setup? I am on the fence as far as getting the street twin or converting to a conventional setup (lots of clutch/pp options). My 96 Impala currently still has the stock motor but it ate up a SPEC 2 clutch in short order.

Re: how long will a street twin last?
The new MC setup is nicer than the old replacement slave cylinder piston.
Daily drivers act fine once you drive it a few days & get used to it. The clutch engages quickly & needs a slower release to be smooth. Used to drive in city traffic often with no problems.

Re: how long will a street twin last?
what are my chances of breaking the stock t-56, driveshaft, and rebuilt 3.73 10 bolt with the street twin considering that i will not be doing any hard launches (probably 2.0 60's for the track) or anything hard from a dig. The car is going to be driven on the street daily when weather permits and i do get on it frequently but nothing stupid from a stop other than some burnouts. most of the car's power will only be seen from a good roll. what are my chances???? thanx
Re: how long will a street twin last?
Cracked pinion teeth on my stock 10 bolt on a 2.1 60ft run. I don't know if the teeth cracked on launch or at the 3-4 shift where I barked the tires @ 90mph. I drove the car home with the rearend knocking. Pulled it apart and there were hairline cracks at the root of 3 pinion teeth. I have also twisted an aluminum LS1 driveshaft in half, and bent two stock torquearms; bowed them like bananas. I have never broke anything in the stock 6sp transmission. The street twin is a wicked SOB. I promise it will help you find all the weak links in your drivetrain.
Good luck and enjoy

Mine lasted 130,000 miles with no problems... except I nuked two posi's and a Ring'n Pinon.
Finally stepped up to a 12-bolt... not problems since.
Street Twin is great for daily driving IMO... but I try to avoid stop'n go anyway, and I enjoy driving a manual so YMMV.
