HoW to CHanGe traNNy FluiD????

Re: HoW to CHanGe traNNy FluiD????
The typing gives me a headache too, but I will try to answer. Not sure what tranny you have, but most all trannys have a drain plug in the pan you can use to empty the fluid. Of course, this does not give access to the filter. But even if you drop the pan, ~1/2 the tranny fluid will remain in the transmission. Some of the transmission fluid is trapped in the torque converter, the valve body, and behind pistons, accumulators, and so on. So, if the old fluid is really contaminated and "worn out" you may be better of getting the tranny flushed and refilled. This will replace nearly all the fluid and the cleaner that is used will remove varnish deposits, etc.

I dropped my tranny pan and changed my filter, and it only took about 2 or so quarts. That is not a whole lot compared to the 7 I was told it can hold. I was told getting it flushed would cost around $150.

Unbolt pan. Be ready for a big mess. The gasket comes with the filter. Tighten pan bolts to 12 ft lbs. The filter is not bolted in. Just pull it out and put the new one in. 5 Qts to refill.
Your best bet for basic maintenance questions is to get a manual. If you're going to do much work on your car it will save you time and money.

you might need two people to do it this way, but if you are savvy you can do it. change the oil and filter (in the pan). disconnect the cooling line that is returning to the pan. i cut mine with a tubing cutter then splice it back together with a good piece of hose. it gives me a nipple to hook to. if you just disconnect it, you will need a brass hose nipple to screw back in to the cooler. next hook a piece of regular fuel hose to the nipple. the piece needs to be long enough to get outside to a bucket (5g) that you can see from where you fill the tranny. start it up and start pouring. you will need your oil ready so you can pour one after the other. when you see the fresh fluid come out of the hose into the bucket stop. you have just flushed your entire tranny. grasmo.
