Re: Going TH-350
your best bet if you want the stall set up to work the best with your car is to let it to the pros, I had ATI build mine I filled out a spec sheet on the car they wanted to know just about everything about it, CI, fuel injected/carbed nitrous/blower,trans type, cam specs, cars weight, gears, tire size, cars weight suspension set up,trans brake, you name it they wanted it they use there programs to set a converter up from all that, then you know what you got, they told me to run a 10 inch MRT converter in mine and they set the stall to around 3800 foot brake and I should be able to get 4500 out of it on the trans brake
Re: Going TH-350
Edge does the exact same stuff and for cheaper than ATI. Not getting into a pissing contest here I just talked to Andre about this several days ago and he was very informative. If their 4l60E converter has handle a 200 shot that made 550+rwhp and 650+rwtq LOCKED UP on the dyno on my car then I'll trust them to build my TH400 converter too, which I'm getting ready to switch to.

Re: Going TH-350
the oversized tail is for on the th400 its a lot bigger yoke, the wall thickness is over double the size of the stock 400 yoke, I had spohn build my drive shaft and went all out on it, he said this shaft should be good to around 1500 HP I dont think Im going to brake this thing

Re: Going TH-350
Not trying to hijack the thread but...
How hard is it to do a Tranny conversion like this?
If you're only planning to make 350-370whp... do you think it's necessary to go with the TH400 and lug around all that extra weight?
Daily driver car with a manual valve body.

Re: Going TH-350
i would keep 3.42 with about a 3500 stall...this will keep the converter tighter for the big end to still make good power and good mph...while the 3.42 wont break until you get into the 1.4 range...this will also allow you to run at least 135 trap speed...
and no a th350 or 400 is not needed until you get id say at least 600+ hp and weight over 3600 pounds....talk to frank so a search for(CPT) he is a stie sponser and will fix u up!!!

Re: Going TH-350
I wouldnt do a conversion till you hit around 500 HP a 4l60 can take that even some people out there now have 4l60s that can take more than that but I wanted a manual body and a trans brake in mine witch they dont make for a 4l60, when I decided to pull my car off the road and redo it I wanted to make it basicly bullet proof so I can drive it to the track and back home with out having to wonder if I need a tow truck to get home at the starting line every pass like I was before thats why I went with a th400 and a 9 inch moser.
Re: Going TH-350
The loss of an OD is huge if the car is gonna be street driven. I'd say that if you want an auto, get a properly built 4L60E unless you are making BIG hp and using sticky tires. If you need more than a properly built 4L60E, you need a TH400. Just IMHO. I cannot undertand a TH350 swap for 99.99% of combos.

Re: Going TH-350
yeah, th350's can def. be built to much stronger then any 4l60e Ive ever heard of. I know a guy on these boards with a third gen who runs low 9's on spray and lifting the wheels on every pass who's been running the same trans for years. and they are a lot lighter and take less power to turn then a th400.

A TH400 weighs less than a 60E and I am willing to bet the TH400 soaks up about the same HP as a 60E does, TH400 has beefier internals but the 60E has another gear.
I am not knockin the TH350 at all but if your going to replace the 60E with a non overdrive tranny then go with a TH400. You will end up with a damn near bulletproof transmission. I agree with Rich on this one.
