Gears and speedo

Getting ready to order my 3:73's and the local speed shop says they can put them in. What about my speedo, can they just plug in and set it so it will shift right and read correctly or should I order a tune right after I get them installed? Just added headers over the winter and the car still has a stock tune. Best gears to get Motive, Precision or Richmond? Probably going to order by end of this week.

Assuming this is for the 94Z in your sig, the PCM will need to be reprogrammed for the gear ratio. The speedo will not read correctly or trans shift correctly without it. Of the three brands you mention, Richmond probably has the most potential for a little noise after install.

Yes it's for the stock rear in my 94Z. Since the Richmonds whine a little more does that mean their stronger? So as soon as I get the gears installed I need to order a tune. I guess she'll get home until I can get the tune done without burning up the tranny.

You could also change the gear data in PCM with something like a Hypertech Programmer (about all they are good for). Or you could get a cable and tuning software like LT1_Edit or TunerCats and change it yourself.
