ES Tranny mount ???

I just bought an Energy Suspension tranny mount from AutoZone for my '94 T/A. Do I have to use the spacer plate that comes with it? I did a search on this but really couldn't find a clear cut answer.

Re: ES Tranny mount ???

all i did was grind down the two humps and the use the spacer. that way it sits flat.

Yes, the spacer is there for a purpose (the purpose I am uncertain of). However, the directions do say to make certain to put the spacer in because it is part of the design. Also, you don't need to grind the humps because as you tighten the mount, they will naturally be flattened.

If you install the spacer plate, it throws the pinion angle off and gives you a wicked vibration. It will be much less noticeable without the plate.

Those bumps don't naturally go away. Grind them off on a bench grinder. Removing the bumps and plate cured a lot of my vibration issue with my mount.

Re: ES Tranny mount ???

I had an ES poly mount in my car for about 1 season, and I put back my factory LS1 mount. I couldn't stand the vibrations, although I HAD the plate installed. General concensus is run WITHOUT that plate and it should be ok. I didn't have the time to "experiment" with it ... I just wanted the car smoothed out, so I just put the LS1 mount back in. Eventually if/when the LS1 mount wears out, maybe I'll put the ES mount back, but without the plate this time?

Re: ES Tranny mount ???

I used the ES poly for 4 years with my T56.... first with the stock torque arm, and later with a Spohn TA, and never had a problem with any sort of vibrations, or with the pinion angle. It was installed exactly as the ES instructions showed, including the pre-load plate and all the bumps. Now 9 years after I bought it, its holding up the tail end of my TH400/Gear Vendor combo, and still doing its job.

Re: ES Tranny mount ???

I put one in my car when it was still an auto. I left the plate out because WITH the plate it was taller than the stock one. I figured it would alter the pinion angle. I had zero vibration without the plate. My friend put on in his car WITH the plate and it vibrated like crazy. I removed the plate and it went away. Either the plate alters the pinion angle OR the plate preloads the mount so much that it makes it to stiff and transfers all the vibration from the road, t-arm and drivetrain. I left mine out and its been in my car without any trouble what so ever for 3 years now.
