going to be replacing a clutch.....
going to be replacing a clutch.....
94 Z28 Camaro that I am buying that needs a new clutch. Wondering what you all think about the SPEC 1 and 2 clutches. The car has basic bolt ons as including headers and a lt4 hotcam kit. I plan on replacing the clutch myself too so any help regarding installing it and steps to doing it would be greatly appriciated!! Thanks!!
Re: going to be replacing a clutch.....
I haven't heard much about the spec 1 + 2, but i know from looking at my buddies spec 3 that the springs like to pop out of the disk. Have you looked into centerforce? Alot of guys on here bash them but I personally like them.

Re: going to be replacing a clutch.....
I put a Spec 2 in my car this past weekend and I'm liking it a lot so far. As far as installation goes, I had to loosen and lower the subframe to get enough clearance for the bellhousing to slip out of the trans tunnel. However, I believe you can remove the trans and bellhousing separately, which would be much easier. I would think you could get the job done in 4 hours or so.
Re: going to be replacing a clutch.....
BEWARE OF THE CENTERFORCE!!! I wouldnt put a centerforce behind ANY T56 vehicle. After mine only lasted 10,000 miles behind a stock LT1 I wouldnt waste the money. Once mine got alittle heat in it, it WOULD NOT go into reverse at all till it cooled down. I do not recommend a centerforce. If it were my car Id get a McCleod single disk. I have a SPEC4 in my car at the moment and Ive actually had very good luck out of it. I have almost 50,000 miles on it. Its about time for a rebuild though. It slipped at the track last friday. I cant complain, Ive beat the hell out of this clutch for 48,000 miles (I gave it a full 2,000 miles of break-in time) and its been a good clutch. As for clutch installation, remove the trans from the bellhousing befor you pull it out. It is SOOO much easier than pulling the whole trans with the bellhousing attached. And dont forget to pull the clutch release fork off the throw-out bearing befor you pull the trans off the bell housing. Hope his helps. I also have pics of my fried centerforce if you would like to see them.
