Re: c clip eliminator or not?

Ever see a car launch hard, and the rear axle come spinning out of the housing..... I have. NHRA requires c-clip eliminators on aftermarket axle setups. The c-clip eliminators prevent the axles from coming out of the housing. Break a clip, and there's nothing else holding the axle in.

Re: c clip eliminator or not?

Any powerful car using sticky tires needs C-clip eliminators. It's a basic safety measure. WRT what Fred said, the only thing keeping the accidents involving broken C-clips from being horrendous is that they tend to happen right near the starting line. But at the very least, a lot of damage is done and there is certainly the potnetial for major injury as well.

A stock or stockish car driven normally on the street doesn't need 'em, a car gaced on sticky tires does. And they aren't a bad idea on a powerful street car.

Re: c clip eliminator or not?

well the disk brakes would be holding the axles in if they did break but i guess the next research to find out is will the c clips fit inside an eaton locker? ive ordered the locker with gm factory 4.10's and am waiting to decide about the c clip kit bc i need to kno wether to buy it or not due to the moser axles i want. but im running a 315 nitto drag radial right now and the car is running 12.6 @ 109 with 3.73's and a stock rearend so i suppose it would be a good idea

how hard it is to install a c-clip elimination kit? is it at a bolt on level or will special tools be required?

I have never used a C clip emiminator on another car that came with C clips, But I have seen what it takes to do so, and I can say that on my 9" the axle retention is done by the backing plates we already use. So I would say the only thing special you would need to eliminate the C clips is a different setof axles, then you would slide your backing plates down on them, and press on the axle bearings.
