B&M shift kit installed no difference in shift 0_0

ok i FINALLY got around to installin the transpak for my 94 Z28, did all teh little extras that were recommended to me for the hardest shift (no checkballs and drill holes one bit size larger) the shifts barely felt any different than they had before when the car was cold and there was no kind of chirping going on at all... may it be because i havent had my pcm retuned to set shift firmness all the way up? ... ive got plenty of time to find out all about this i can because the tranny died soon as i tested it WOT again to see if it would shift now ... so itll be a week or so before the car is back but ild like to know what i can do to get the hard tire jerkin shift that i want out of it, from what ive heard the shift firmness i got out of it was very nice but it was still slow to shift.. was this maybe even caused by the trans bein warn out and not grabbing well? i did notice first gear felt a LOT tighter than it had before after the install.. even though i lost drive after one good wot run...

thanks in advance everyone

Re: B&M shift kit installed no difference in shift 0_0

I've got a B&M kit in mine... there was a huge difference before and after. Without any tuning the trans shifted good, added the kit and it hit gears hard and fast. After I made a few PCM adjustment it really felt good. It hit each gear with crisp, fast, and hard shifts. Been that wasy for over 3 years and no problems.

I find it very ironic that the trans let go right after you installed it. My hunch is that something wasnt right and the trans went south because of the kit, not the other way around. Make sure your builder knows that the kit is there and be sure it was installed correctly.

nah the trans was headed way down south, drive was about to go out in it anyway i just had the kit put in hopin it would help it last a little longer but all the extra pressure on the clutches made the weakness they already had shine strongly and just die, but after the shift kit like i said it was still shiftin only as strong as it did when it was cold before, mind you thats really really good compared to some of teh stories ive heard of these things in electronic trans's but mainly im just curious if a comp tune will help it a lot or if theres any fine tunin i can do with the kit other than what i listed, because i did the same stuff to a shift kit in a TH350 and that trans would spin the tires EASILY in a 1st-2nd shift and by easily i mean just runnin 2200 rpms it would turn em over once, see mine is ... err was shiftin hard it was just slow like it would shift finally but it would be slow and hard like the comp is holdin it back sayin no no slow down dont do that lol... thats why im hopin the comp tune will help it, but i dunno im gonna try this other thing b&m sells for it that is suppose to tune the trans for that instead of takin it and gettin dyno tune and everything done since its mostly stock ... thx for the input, but what do you mean by crisp? i call crisp pretty much shiftin instantly whereas mine feels crisp yes but its not fast enough to be called crisp.. =/

You should have had a definate improvement. I'm guessing because you didn't it's mainly because the trans was dying. Remember in your other post I didn't recommend wasting your time installing the shift kit in a trans that was on it's way south? This was why, you didn't even get a chance to enjoy it. A PCM tune is going to improve your shifts, but it's not really recommended. All it does is boost the line pressure, which isn't exactly good for the tranny either. I don't think it's horribly detrimental or anything, just frowned against. Get the tranny fixed and then see where your shifts are at. They might get much firmer after you've got some new clutch bands in there.

thats what i was mostly thinkin was causin it, cause i noticed a HUGE difference in how tight first gear was, i could feel it gripping harder than it had the entire time i had the car, now i understand why u recomended not putting it in, but im glad i did as it saved me the trouble of "when's it gonna go" now i just cant wait to get it back from the shop with new zoom clutches sprag gear and all the other goodies a complete performance rebuild gives
