Anyone move from a Vigilante to an Edge converter?

I'm debating converter efficiency here as I'm gearing up to restall to a ~3800-4000 stall converter. The plan was to send my Vigi out for a restall and call it a day... install it with a trans from CPT whenever I get to send it to 'em and go from there.

A recent post on LS1 tech has a claim of a 3 mph and .2 gain in the 1/8 after switching to an Edge. I'm taking that with a grain of salt until I see some replies and other examples.

With my cam only setup my Vigi 3200 would only "hit" a 1.62 60' times... I've noticed others with smaller Yanks, etc hitting 1.5x times without any real suspension mods/changes... I feel the Vigi was at the limit as to how hard it would hit for me, and I'm worried a bigger stall would 60' a bit better, but not as hard as it could and not as efficiently either.

Thoughts?

Whats an Edge got to do with looking at 60ft. times guys are running with a Yank? Whats Frank got to say about this? How about you get the trans first and see where your 60ft times are at and then figure out a course of action.

I used the Yank as a quick example of another brand that hits harder.. I know I've seen Edge cars that hit hard as well.

My transmission rebuild has nothing to do with my 60' times... I'm not sure why you would even ask that. I know what my car currently 60's with my Vigi 3200.. and it ain't that great (no tirespin). I also know that the LE3 needs way more stall than the 3200 has to offer...

So anywho... I guess I'd also like to hear from those who have switched to a Yank SS series.. such as a Yank SS4000

Are they comparing a stock converter versus the Edge or the Edge versus another higher stall converter competitor. If it is the Edge versus a stock converter, it would be pretty easy to justify the gains. But as you mentioned, I would take it for a grain of salt. There are too many variables involved.

Edge Vs. a Vigi in that regard.

Frank, will do. I won't actually be ordering anything until I talk to you to finalize the transmission deal (hopefully in January), so we'll chat before then.

I'm also considering the Yank too. As much as I like Vigilante, from the results I'm seeing from LS1tech heavy-hitters, the bigger Vigilantes are not the way to go (3800+ guys).

I'm looking for 1.4 60' times when all is said and done. I want something that hits HARD. After the car is all done up (drivetrain-wise) I'll be building up the suspension so..

Frank, care to elaborate on your calling them paperweights? Seems like all you ever want to do is bash companies that have good budget products and excellent service.

Javier, sorry if my reply seemed a little harsh. I too would like to use a higher stall in the future and it seems that guys are cutting some good 60ft. times with the Yank converters. But I'm not quite sure what the part is that Yank leaves out, (dampener?) and I believe Frank was the one that wasn't keen on that fact. Maybe Frank can chime in and correct and or explain what I'm trying to get across.

doesnt the "str" of the converter make a big difference how hard it will "hit" off the line?
