Weatherstripping Help

Hey guys need some weatherstripping help for my 1996 z28. Have noticed some strange buildup around the edges of some of my windows and I believe it is excess weatherstrip adhesive that has somehow "leaked" out overtime. I don't really know for sure if someone knows what this is. The car has been in storage for the past almost ten years if that matters in a proper climate storage.

I attempted to remove it with goo off which didn't work and a basic brand heavy duty grease remover which also didn't work. Does anyone know what I could possibly use to loosen the sludge? It seems like I'll have to attempt to carefully lift it up with a sharp edge or a blade without damaging the glass. Any thoughts?

Re: Weatherstripping Help

Common problem.... its the glue from the factory install. I bought my 94 brand new, and it oozed for 10+ years. The more it sits in the hot sun, the more it oozes. Had to keep cleaning it off with a razor blade and solvent. Yours look like the original owners never tried to clean it up.

Okay beauty thanks man I had a feeling that's what it was, I'll just put in some time and elbow grease to slowly removing it like you said with some solvent and a razor!

Re: Weatherstripping Help

I'm pretty sure I used "tar remover".

So Fred did yours ever leak from removing so much? Sounds like it just keeps coming out.

Re: Weatherstripping Help

Never had a problem with leakage. The strip is really just a trim piece to cover the edge of the glass, not a seal. There used to be replacements available, but not sure it they are still being made.

I could never understand how the stuff could keep oozing for years.... like it was regenerating itself!!
