Unhappy A4 to synthetic Question

Just swithced to Synthetic Fluid in my trani and less than a 1000 miles later I had a friend borrowing my car and a service engine soon light come on for it being low! Does anyone know how much fluid I lost to get to that point? I'm really far away and I'd like to know how bad it is! Any help please!

Thanks!

did you actually check the level of fluid? How do you know that SES is for trans fluid? did you get it scanned? Better make sure it is b/c i dont think a low trans fluid code exists....

I was informed that when the car was checked out the only thing that was low was the trani fluid. They said the light went off as soon as they put two quarts of conoco ATF in. That burns me up because I just flushed it and put in Royal Purple not more than five days before I left! 120

I haven't had it scanned yet. I don't have a scanner but my friend has a HPPT+ for a 97 Z28 would it scan a 95 Z28?

AFAIK there is no sensor that would reflect low tranny fluid. How did you check to be sure you had the right level in the first place?

FWIW, I don't like synthetic tranny or rear end fluid. Too slippery for anything that requires a specific amount of friction to work properly. Eaton, for example, specifically states that thier posi's are supposed to use mineral based lubricants only. IOW, they will not work properly with synthetics.

I know how to check it. Unfortunately I wasn't driving a girl friend of mine was. She had one of her guy friends come check out the car so I'm assuming they didn't do it correctly. Guess the guy had to "fix something" to look good. It was also assumed I filled my car up with regular fluids!

My friend checked it the other day. He checked it after warming it up and he said it was at the hot full mark. I don't believe the trani is warm or hot when the engine is warmed up to 180 deg. I believe it needs to be driven or something. Could be wrong though!

As far as the trani goes are there any codes that pop for it?

Update

Car was driven all this week and Trani lost no fluid. Oil level was a little low. Other than that there is no sign of a leak from the Transmission.

I guess it could have possibly been for the oil being low?? I normally only lose somewhere in a quart of oil between changes.
