I got mine from Drivetrain Specialist 1-800-216-1632. They are Sierra Gear. Ask them to go back an count the teeth because all there brands are marked 4.10-4.11.. some are 4.10 some are 4.11, you want 37 ring 9 pinion. Sometimes Motive gears are 4.10's sometimes 4.11's depends on where they were made. I dont have any problems with mine, they wine a little like Richmonds but not bad, I also had mine installed a little tighter since its not a daily driver and I wanted a little stronger for the track.

I got a set of Motive 4.11 gears from a local shop for $150.

If I recall correctly, if you get Motive gears, the ones made in USA are 4.10, and the ones made in Italy are 4.11.

"importeater" helped answer that. It has to do with the number of teeth on the gears.

4.10's are very typical GM gears, using 41 teeth on the ring gear, and 10 on the pinion gear (hence 41 / 10 = 4.10 ). Other common ratios such as 2.73, 3.42, and 3.73 also use 41 teeth on the ring, with varying # of teeth on the pinion.

4.11's have 37 teeth on the ring gear, and 9 on the pinion (37 / 9 = 4.11) but having less teeth on the same "size" of a gear, makes the teeth thicker and therefore stronger.

Look here, http://www.geocities.com/greasemunkeey/411vs4101.jpg, you tell me There is a big difference believe it or not 4.10's = 41 ring teeth 10 pinion 4.11's = 37 teeth 9 pinion.. less teeth in the same amount of area = bigger teeth = stronger teeth.

EDIT: Click and drag the link to the address bar.. Capn Pete, you read my mind, just about word for word

4.11 gears are also supposed to have less "whine" than a higher ratio gear...

I have heard from a guy who installs a lot of F-body gears that the 4.11's whine more than 4.10's do, and he doesnt recommend them due to this fact. Is this true?

GM 4.10's are the best to go with. 41:10 teeth, and they NEVER whine. I've installed 100's of these with no problems.

whiteslpz: sent you a PM
