Because they wanted to **** off the future owners of these cars. GM never did offer what would be considered a performance gear ratio. 2:73, 3:08, 3:23 (3:27), 3:42 (3:45) and rare 3:73. It started in the 70's and was always a compromise betwwen economy & performance.

I agree, 2.73's are not as bad as people act.
