1st to 2nd has sloppy shift

Just got My motor back into my car last week. The car sat for 3 months. I have noticed that when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd the shift is somewhat sloppy. The rest are firm and tight. It is worse under hard exceliration. Sometimes it will shift fine but for the most part it isn't. It is a built 4L60E with a kelar 2/4 shift band, beast sunshell, GM 4L65E 5 gear planitary, New pump, Z clutch packs, Transgo shift kit and a Yank 3500 stall. The fluid is clean and at the proper level on the dip stick . I have had burned up 3/4 clutch packs but never had any problems with 1st to 2nd shifts. Any ideas?
Thanks

There are 2 problems with Kevlar. First, it's too hard for 2-4 band use, and burns up quicker than a stock band. Second, I've seen the matrial sepeate from the steel backing many times. I'd say you probably have a problem with the Kevlar band. Hopefully this transmission was built more than 5 years ago...Which is when any good transmission builder realized the short comings of Kevlar.

You also mentioned a Trans Go shift kit. This could be a reason for shortened 2-4 band life also.

12SCNDZ,
What about the 1-2 accumilator. I heard the piston is plastic and will crack causing fluid to pass through hence clutch slippage and sloppy shifts. Any thoughts.

Your '96 shouldn't have plastic pistons...but...if it does, the accumulator mods that TG instructs you to do will definitely cause them to break. I believe the TG kits even tells you not to reuse plastic.
We don't reuse plastic in anything anymore.

Also...Did you just install the higher stall? More stall will normally equal softer shifts.

No. the stall was put in in 2001. Its funny I went out today to log a couple of runs on datamaster and at WOT it shifted fine. At part throttle it just feels sloppy. All the rest of the shifts are fine.
