What about a drive shaft, (M6) and u-joints

Yes, elaborate. I am also in the market for an 12b. (not trying to hijack)
What are these backing plates you speak of??
Axles? C-clips (options).. If you bought a "Bolt in replacement" kit would it come w/ it? -the axles that is.
I think you only need the LCA reloc brackets if the car is lowered. I don't think it would hurt otherwise. You shouldn't have to mess w/ the D/S.
Re: 12 Bolt Help
Driveshaft length will depend on which 12-bolt you buy, the kind of pinion yoke they put on it, and how much power you are putting down. People who have bought the Strange find that the stock DS will work with it. But if you have enough power to require a 12-bolt, an upgraded DS, made to the exact length you need it always a good idea. Install the rear, measure for DS length.
What U-joint you need will also depend on what DS you have and what pinion yoke you use. Logically, you would order the 12-bolt and the DS set up for 1350 joints. Using a stock DS will typically require a "cross-over" U-joint.
LCA relocation bracket need is not based on having a 12-bolt. Its a matter of whether you need them to adjust the angle of the LCA's to the ground. The 12-bolts will have the mounting locations and dimensions same as stock. If you needed LCA relo rackets with your current/stock setup, you will want to keep them with the 12-bolt. I believe that the Moser 12-bolt has a heavier (than stock) bracket for the LCA's, and requires an LCA relo bracket specifically for the Moser. The Strange uses stock mounting brackets.
For any sort of serious drag use, you want C-clip eliminators. You don't want to drag race with C-clips... a broken axle comes flying out of the housing, wheel and tire still attached. NHRA requires C-clip eliminators on any aftermarket rear axle assembly.
For a true "bolt-in" assembly, you want the Strange. It uses all the stock mounting hardware, has axle tubes the same diameter as the 10-bolt, accepts the stock torque arm using the two long through-bolts, or an aftermarket arm using the through-bolts and the stock hole locations. The Strange is fully assembled and run-in at the Strange shop. Comes with the lube already in it. Its a direct bolt-in.
The Moser is a bit differerent.... some people (50%) find they need a shorter DS. The axle tubes are larger so you need new C-clamps for the rear sway bar. The LCA brackets have heavier steel, so you need special LCA relo brackets. The TA mount is offset slightly, requiring an extra set of holes in the aftermarket arms, and instead of using the 2 through-bolts, Moser used 4 bolts that thread into the axle casting, and seem to cause problems by coming loose. The Moser also comes partially assembled, and required that you swap your brake baking plates. The assembly of the axles and housing ends requires shims that Moser often forgets to include.
I would recommend that you order the rear with the 1350 pinion yoke, C-clip eliminators, aluminum rear cover with bearing cap pre-load bolts. A heavy duty posi is a good idea, at least 33-spline axles. I would also recommend that you take the time to understand the options available for the carrier. The True-Trac mentioned above is one option, but you might want to consider something like the Eaton Super Strength posi.

Re: 12 Bolt Help
Stupid question.... you said that it comes w/ fluid. Do I (anyone else) have to buy a cover?
S.S. posi w/ Reluctor ring or not.(not too sure what that is) I was just checking out the Strang 12b.
Coincidentaly, I bought a BMR adj TA a year ago and it has two sets of holes on the rear mounting point... for anyone's info.
That answerd a LOT! Thanx man!
NOT TRYING TO HIJACK! I need some info too...

Moser ships in a couple pieces, and requires that you add the lube and LSD additive.... no big deal.

The True-Trac mentioned by Eric/Victory is a different type of differential, which I beleive uses worm gears.
The "reluctor ring" is what you need to buy if you want to keep your 3-channel ABS system working - its on the carrier. If you have 4-channel ABS/TCS, you don't need it,l but then you need to swap over the reluctor rings from the axles and the wheel sensor/brake backing plates.

I have an online install procedure for the STrange 12-bolt, if that might clear up some of the questions. Just keep in mind it was written more then 6 years ago, so some of the info (e.g. - aluminum cover being standard) has changed.

Re: 12 Bolt Help
If you order one from Strange be prepare to wait.I ve order mine the 8 of december and still waiting cause there heavy duty posi(the 14 clutch one) is on backorder till the end of february
But i still think thats the best bang for the bucks
And i really suggest you the heavy duty one their is no enough difference in $$$ between the standard one(9 clutch) and the HD one.
The stock posi should be able to take as far as 700hp(thats what i ve read) before failing but why not ordering the stronger one and be mind free.

Send me a PM
Re: 12 Bolt Help
I'm curious, do any of hte manufacturers offer ford 9" axle tubes installed so you guys can get away from seal eating C clip eliminators? 4 out of 4 street/strip cars we run with used the eliminators against eveybodies advise about that problem, and in all 4 cars they shortly after started leaking fluid out of the axle seals? Heard of a few other guys having ford tubes pressed into the 12 bolt pumpkin so they have the benefit of staying GM, but the better design for safety of the ford ends.
Or are they just using standard axle tubes and welding updated ends on them to get away from the c clip eliminators?
Not that I'll ever run a 12 bolt, but curious to see what's been done about the axle seal problem and LONGTERM durability.
