th400 swap track results within

Man, am I happy. I was expecting to lose mph from going from the 6 spd. to the th400 but I actually gained mph and E.T. (albeit with some help from the weather). Anyway, weather conditions were good at Cecil ( low 40's, 40-50% humidity, and 31 barometer) but the track surface sucked tonight. I have cut a better 60ft. when I had the 6 speed in it.. lol. However, I was able to make my best runs so far this evening without the use of the transbrake. I still need to really tune the suspension and fine tune the computer program. I left the Hals at 3 on all four corners tonight. I feel that high 1.4 60ft.'s are attainable once I get in some more track testing time. Here is a breakdown of the runs:

1st Run-footbraked to 1500 and flashed the converter to ~5000rpms...spun a good bit and left some 5-8 foot black mark on the track.
60ft 1.676
330ft 4.733
660ft 7.324
mph 94.55
1000ft 9.566
1/4 11.459
mph 118.83----I actually picked up 2-3 mph from my best 6 speed runs

2nd run- launched the same as the first run but spun a little more than the first time
60ft 1.739
330ft 4.809
660ft 7.411
mph 94.01
1000ft 9.665
1/4 11.569
mph 118.19

3rd run--launched the same as previous... spun about the same as the first run...but I hit the rev limiter in first gear and again real bad in 2nd gear because my shiftlight decided to move on me.
60ft 1.689
330ft 4.826
660ft 7.496
mph 91.14
1000ft 9.802
1/4 11.732
mph 117.11

4th and final pass--launched at 2000rpm's off the footbrake...spun pretty bad but I did not hit the rev limiter shifted at 6300rpm's
60ft 1.717
330ft 4.812
660ft 7.419
mph 94.01
1000ft 9.673
1/4 11.576
mph 118.36

I hotlapped the car on all runs and there were about 15-30 min between the runs. I hope to get into the 11.0xrange @ ~119-120 this year once I get the suspension and tune figured out all the way and use the transbrake. I am very pleased with my results of the swap and would recommend it to anyone considering the swap.

Time to update sig

Those are some pretty impressive times! I have a Hughes TH350/4000 converter in my car and when I swapped from my M6 my et stayed the same but I loss around 2-3 mph. What stall converter do you have, what do you shift at, what does your car weight, and finally have you had it dynoed. Thanks

Thanks for the complement. The converter I have is a 9" www.dynamicconverts.com converter with a stall speed of ~4800-5000rpms. It will footbrake to 4200rpms and will flash to ~5000rpms. The converter is really set up for the a 250 of nitrous whic I will add later on. I shifted at around 6300rpms on the runs last night. I usually shift it at around 6600-6800rpms. I still have to dyno it to see what kind of power it makes and where the power curve is. Car weighs 3300lbs with a half tank of gas without me in it, I weigh 260 plus another 10 lbs for the helmet and other safety stuff, so I had a raceweight last night of 3570lbs.

What has to be done for the swap? Is it a big deal or is it a simple swap? I'm asking cause my trans is shot right now and i'm tired of this crappy 4L60E!

I'm a little curious about your converter choice. If it flashes to 5,00rpm without the nitrous, what it's going to do with it? Seems like it's going to go sky high. Another question: do you drive the car on the street? If so, what's that loose a converter like?

Thanks.

rskrause--I was told by dynamic that it should flash to no more than 5200 on a 250 shot from what it does now--I'll see once I put the bottle on it. As far as street manners...the car is not bad at all. I drove the car 25 miles to the track and back home. I usually drive it only on the weekends. The stall does not feel loose until you actually give it a lot of gas. I thought it would be worse when Dynamic told me that the stall was so high but I was reassured by many people that it would not be as bad as I thought. You do not have to give the car gas to move...it will actually start moving pretty good once you let off the brake without giving it gas. the only thing that makes my car a little unstreetable is the 4.11 gears, 26" tall tires, and no OD. At 50mph it tachs 3k rpms.

rick-- the swap is pretty simple if you have a th400 with a converter, a new shifter, a driveshaft, and a 6 spd. tranny mount.

I started at 3 on all four corners and ran it like that all night. The track was pretty crappy that night so I ran them a little loose. On a prepped track I would tighten the backs up to 5 and try it that way but I still have a lot of testing to do in order to find the optimum settings for track conditions. I think the Hals greatly increase the weight transfer ability of the car but I just need to dial it in. Hopefully, I will get to a test n tune and get to run it about 15-20 passes and dial it in.
