Try at Mopac

Running 11.99 and quicker you need an SFI flywheel shield. You'll also need an SFI clutch and flywheel.

As far as I could find out, no one makes an SFI rated bellhousing for the T56/LT1 combo. I did ding someone who could make a custom one for ~$1,500 though. And it wouldn't be a "bolt in". Some fabbing would need to be done to get the clutch to work.

Rich: What are we suppose to use to satisfy the tech guys at the strip?

I know you can buy a blanket for about $180. Will that do?

I have the Mcleod street twin and I assume that is SFI approved.

Isn't the new McLeod "universal" bell housing SFI-rated? But then there is the question of whether it requires the LS1 version of the concentric slave cylinder?????

I think it's "yes" and "yes". This was not available when I looked into it, so it slipped my mind. But it is not a bolt-in for an LT1. As far as the clutch/flywheel assembly, I never saw an SFI sticker on one, so I assume it is not certified. However, at the level most of us are running I don't think they are going to tear it down to check.

A blanket is probably the only thing to do to come close to being compliant. Problem is they get grungy very quickly and retain a lot of heat, making them problematic on the street. This whole issue is one reason I went to a TH400, though so far that hasn't been a trouble free conversion either.

The new McLeod bellhousing is SFI-rated, according to the McLeod website. . It comes in a universal model, that will bolt most popular manual trannies to an SBC, LT1 or LS1. It allows Viper, LS1, and LT1 T56's to be interchanged on different cars. I've seen an install in one of the magazines, so they appear to exist. The only question that I seem to recall is whether the LS1 slave cylinder is mandatory, requiring you to start with the LS1 T56.

When I was running the T56 and Street Twin, I used a bellhousing blanket from an automatic. Tech never asked if I had it, or looked under the car.
