batt on/off switch neccessary?
If i were to put my batt in the trunk in a sealed vented box do i have to run an on/off switch or is the switch only for cars that run xx et's?
If i have to mount one how do i do it in a appealing manner? I don't want some ugly switch sticking out the back of my car.

Any car with a relocated battery reguardless of speed must have a master kill switch at the rear.
It can't be keyed
It can't be made of plastic
Off must be clearly marked
If installed as a push/pull, push must be the off position.
When turned off it must kill all the electrical devices in the car and kill the engine.
It must be wired into the positive cable.
That should be about it.

The latest issue of GM High Tech Performance (Jan 2003) has an article on battery relocation. They used a push-pull switch, with the switch mounted inside the hatch area, on the rear of the panel behind the taillights, and the push handle tucked in between the license plate and the edge of the license plate recess in the bumper.... fairly unobtrusive.
I have also seen a turn-type switch mounted under the rear bumper, with an aluminum extension handle that could be removed for street driving/shows. "On-Off" was labled on the bumper using a label maker.

Don't forget that when it's turned off it kills everything in the car. It's just like disconnecting the battery. You'll need to reset the clock and station presets in the radio every time you use it. Not something you'd like to do often in a street car.
You would also kill the power to the ECM and it would have to go through a learn curve again.

You don't have to turn it off though? As long as the switch is there you are fine i am guessing? They don't make relocation easy by any means. I will be putting a fuel cell where the battery goes and i don't know of anywhere else i could put the cell.
What about all the vortech guys with the aftercooler? They all have to relocate but i doubt everyone uses a switch?

Unless you are planning on running sactioned events, it isn't necessary to have a switch. Most tracks do not even ask about it on time trial or street nights.
And on a street car, what is the difference where it is mounted? If you have it under the hood, there is no way to easily get to it to kill all the power.
Unless you are planning on runing at a lot of events, it is just unneeded "race car" stuff on a street car. IMHO!
(and yes, my 9 sec street car does have a kill switch, because it is required by the rules for the speeds it runs, but my buddies 10 sec 93 doesn't have one, and has never been asked about one at either of the IHRA or NHRA tracks we run at. He is only allowed to run 12.0 though, since he doesn't have a cage)

I will be running things like club clash, friday night et series, and that is about it. I suppose i could get a tech inspected sticker for the season and then throw the batt back there.
