Scanning/datalogging software help

Well I'm getting a laptop in the coming week and the first thing I'm looking to do is to pick up a data cable and get some scanning or datalogging software.

I don't know too much about this, but I'm looking for something that will allow me to 1-scan for codes, and 2-really see whats going on under the hood. Something I will need to to right off the bat is check out my tps which means reading the voltage on that, and the IAC counts. I need a cheap and easy to use software that will allow me to do that.

If anyone has a program like this or knows of something good, please let me know. Keep in mind I'm not looking to tune the car myself, merely make sure everything is okay, check the tps, little things like that. I'd love to be able to make a "movie" of what the car is doing at WOT and check it out. Let me know what kind of inexpensive programs you guys are using!

Thanks!

Freescan or tunerpro, be sure you get a odb2 style odb1 cable (akmcables.com has it)

Datamaster is the cadillac of logging software and will read codes, erase codes, and log your car.

You can get it for $95 I think from akmcables.

You can download DataMaster for free, and use it 20 times before it asks you to buy the license.

DataMaster and FreeScan are both data loggers. I'm not familiar with "TunerPro". There is TunerCat, but that's a programming software.

If you are intersted in tuning software, LT1_Edit is a tuning program, that can be bundled with pcmcomm data logging software.

Freescan:

Thanks man that helps a ton!

I've got another question for you guys now... I have the hypertech programmer for my car, do you think there is a way I can use the cable from that to hook up to my laptop? It's a 15 pin connector, there must be an adapter or something I can get for that to work on a USB...that would be amazing

Tunerpro can program and datalog, freescan can only datalog, tunerpro will need special definition files to use it that you can get from the moates.net files section.
