Removing air bags and deleting air bag light

Ok, here's the deal. I'm installing a 3 spoke Grant steering wheel, and I'm going without a console. Some know that there is an air bag sensor under the console.

What's the easiest (safest) way to remove the steering wheel/air bag, and passenger side air bag? How do I get the Air Bag light to go out?

Thanks,
Frank

Thanks, Alvin. BTW, I haven't forgot about you. I just now got back to working on my car. Our transmission buisness has consumed most of our time for the past few years.
You're still "The Man" when I need to get the chip reburnt for mine. I wouldn't trust anyone else with it.
We guide quite a few of our customers to PCMFORLESS to have the computers done for our transmissions.
I'm sending the out soon to have the cage done. I've had to get a few other details ironed out on the interior.

The key to removing the airbags is to pull the power to the DERM module at least 20 minutes before you attempt to do anything. The DERM holds a charge so that the airbags can be fired if battery power is lost in the accident. You have to allow time for the charge to bleed off. After 20 minutes is up, find the yellow connector for each airbag (the one for the driver's side is at the base of the steering column) and pull the safety pin out of the connector and disconnect it. Keep the airbag at arms length when handling it.

always touch your hand to a good ground after you sit in the car,, and before you touch any of the wiring or connectors for the airbags,, i usually just reach over and touch the door jam striker

you just want to make sure you dont have a static electricity charge built up in you before you touch of get your hand close the the airbag connector

is there a step by step website that tells you how to do this?? I plan on using a grant wheel as well. Also, I know I'll need the 3 "gen" horn install kit, but would I also need a spacer, and if so what size 1" or 2"??
Thanx

I did a 3rd gen kit with a grant wheel. Everything fit fine and I did not use a spacer. Just had to sand/grind a little bit off the inside of the column. Mine would only rub when it was cold outside, but it squeaked something awful on the plastic.

The 3rd Gen kit will fit fine, except for the minor rubbing on the top of the steering column sheet metal. Although no "spacer" was required, I replaced the standard "spider" and rubber bellows that comes with the install kit, with a "billet spacer".... I think it was the 1" spacer, but I'll check if its important. The diameter of the kit is slightly less than the diameter of the 4th Gen steering column, so you have to make sure the end of the column is painted. I also don't recall doing anything special about the horn, it hooked up fine. I did replace the "Grant" button with a Pontiac arrowhead button.
