obd1 codes reading
obd1 codes reading
My check engine light came on the other day, and I was wanting to read the codes. So i went to the shop and got my dads can tool put the obd1 adapter on it, and tried to read it. It kept giving me an error that it could not communicate. So, my next step was to short out the plug. I put a paper clip from the number 5 and 6 terminal. The check engine light did not flash 12, but the fans came on which is what I hear it is suppose to do. At that point i was really confused, so then i plugged my computer into it just to see if I could see what it was doing. I used the step by step instructions that are sticky-ed (tuner pro 5) to see if it was reading values. It popped up and said 8192 baud error or something like that, but would display data every now and then, only for a quick amount of time though. I am confused on what my problem is here and have no idea where to begin.
Also it is a 1994 Z28 Automatic car.

It is, but I think, after reading about it, that it doesn't scan all of them. It came with several attachments, (i used the obd1 gm attachment). Then, asked me to input several pieces of information about the car and vin number. Here is the link to the tool http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...4780000P?mv=rr . No idea if my car is one of the ones it scans, and can't find a list of ones it does.
On tuner pro 5 do i have to change the default baud to get it to work?
