guage problems on dash
hi guys got a few questions from time to time on my 94 z28 the low coolent light comes on but theres coolent in the system it marks alittle past the cool line when cold and a little past the high line when hot in the reivoir tank. when cold i take the cap off the radiator and its full. also why is it once you hit a 1/4 tank the cars empty? is this a guage problem? thanks i nadvance for any insight
The low coolant light on the dash is a common problem. The source of the problem is the low coolant sensor on the passenger side radiator end tank, a couple inches below the fill cap. The sensor cruds up and stops working. Sometimes you can clean it, but usually it needs to be replaced.
Shoebox has a photo of the location, and the part #:

If you want the light to go away until you get a chance to service the sensor, simply unplug the harness connector from the sensor. Just remember to check your coolant level regularly, until you repair/replcae the sensor.
The fuel level is typically 1-2 gallons when the fuel gauge reads 1/4-tank. That is basically a function of the shape of the fuel tank, which is wider at the top than it is at the bottom. Again... completely normal.
