fans wont turn on unless i unplug them from temp sensor

Hey guys is there any body who's had this problem. a couple of years ago my heater core broke and since that happened i checked out my heater hoses and they where going bad so cut them i bypassed the heater core just in till i can get all the parts for it because it was going to be a lot of money ,and the car over heated and thats when i found out that the fans where not working ,so replaced the temp sensor ,and that didn't work and then i figured out the fans would run when they are not plugged into the temp sensor , so now the fans are alway's on and i had to keep charging my battery because it drains it every time i started up ,and on top all this problem the car wont start up right away and it blows i little smoke out the tail pipe only at start up and it smells like raw gas,i love my car i bought it in 1998 its a 95' Trans Am and i am the second owner and i am not going to give up on her so can any body out there help me and my car i just want it run as good as the day i got it.

How did you "unplug" the fans from the sensor? The fans run off the PCM, and the temp sensor in the water pump housing feeds the PCM. There is no direct connection from the coolant temp sensor to the fans, UNLESS you have an aftermarket fan switch installed.

Do you have an aftermarket fan switch, or did you unplug the coolant temp sensor in the water pump housing? If you unplugeed the coolant temp sensor, the fans came on because it trips a code in the PCM and turns on your SES light. Now the PCM does not have the required data to operate the engine efficiently, and you may have problems with starting when the engine is hot, and the PCM can not go into "closed loop" to control the A/F ratio more accurately.

Explain more cleary what you did to disconnect the fans from the temp sensor.

You need to troubleshoot your fans and get that sensor plugged back in. You caused your rich condition by unplugging that sensor. Bad way to try and fix a trouble. The fans are not "plugged in" to the temp sensor. You caused a trouble code by unplugging the sensor and that causes the fans to run.

Apparently he can't seem to make the connection between the fan problem, unhooking the coolant temp sensor, and the problems he's asking about in this thread:

You're ASKING.... we are offering you advice..... and you are totally ignoring what we say.

If "a couple of years ago" applies to unplugging the CTS and running highly rich you better start saving for a new shortblock and cats.

Exclamation all hooked up now

I hooked up the fans to the coolant temp sensor now and i also changed the thermo stat so now the car still gets hot and fans never com on and i tried turning on the A/C and the fan didn't come on for that either and i don't get a check engine light so i don't think that a scanner is needed so i am stumped now could it be that the radiator is plugged up or my water pump is not working could this be the problem? can any one help me with this.

Hey shoebox i read a thread were you helped out this guy and it got me thinking i did the same mistake it was about the guys car over heating and the water would come out his coolant tank , so you told them to check his hoses that run from the water pump to the radiator and the coolant tank to the radiator and he checked and the hoses were in the wrong place so he swapped them around and that was the problem , so any way i just checked mine it was the same i did the same damn thing but i have not turned the car on , i am scared to find out that it may not work ,i say this because he never mentioned any thing about his fans not working every thing that he wrote down on that thread was happening to my car accept for the fans not coming on so please tell me what you think. thanks for your time shoebox
