Have you checked the fuel pressure?

Have you scanned it for codes?

Have you checked to make sure the coolant temp sensor in the water pump housing is showing an accurate temperature?

ok

i have not checked the fuel pressure but i have changed the fuel filter i tried to release the fuel pressure from that valve and there was no pressure i thought that was going to be a mess and there was just a small amount of gas that came out, i don't know if that means anything or is that normal ?, as for the scanner i don't have one yet i did buy one i couple years ago and i didn't work, its weird i don't know if need a OBD1 or a OBD2 i have a 95' so i bought a OBD1 and it didn't work and OBD2 is for 96' and newer do you think that it might be the OBD2? . checking the temp on the water pump is whole different problem my fans will not work if plug them into the temp sensor i dont understand why that is i changed the temp sensor and it didnt work,so i just leave it unplugged and the fans are on the whole time the car is running,so what do you think it is? i would appreciate your help or thoughts thanks.

Your car is OBDI with an OBDII port. The '95s confuse a lot of people because of that. The following link shows how to use a scan tool with the regular OBDI connector.

Your 95 (as are all 95's) is OBD-I with a 16-pin OBD-II style ALDL connector. IT is the only year that is that way. Shoebox has a diagram that allows you you connect the 12-pin OBD-I connector to your 16-pin OBD-II connector:

http://shbox.com/1/xraycable.jpg

Note that your OBD-I scanner must be a real scanner, and not just a box with a switch that shorts the ALDL pins to flash the code on the SES light. 93 is the only year that will work on.

AS far as the fans and "disconnecting them from the temp sensor"..... I'll try to explain this one more time. The fans DO NOT connect directly to the temp sensor. They connect to the PCM (computer). The PCM reads the coolant temp sensor, and determines when to turn on the fans. It also uses the coolant temperature to control several other functions, including the transition from "open loop" A/F ratio control to "closed loop" A/F ratio control. It uses the temp to set the idle speed on cold start. It uses the temp to determine the cold start fuel enrichment. If you run this way, your car will be hard to start, it will run excessively rich, wasting fuel, and possibly even damaging the engine by diluting the oil.

HOOK THE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR BACK UP before you screw things up even more. Diagnose the fan problem and fix it. Often, turning on the A/C is enough to provide sufficient cooling, until you can find the source of the problem.

This is really getting confusing, because you posted on the "Comuputer Diagnostics....." forum about unhooking the coolant temp sensor to make your fans run, and prevent overheating.

Do you not see the connection between these two threads? You have caused the problems you are asking about in this thread, because you unhooked the collant temp sensor.

PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND WHAT PEOPLE ARE TELLING YOU, IN TRYING TO HELP YOU.

It does take a specific t-stat. They probably gave you one for the small block Chevy, but it won't work right.

Bookmark Shoebox's site, as there is a wealth of info about the LT1 there.

Your thermostat, radiator, water pump, etc. will not prevent the fans from coming on.

Since they come on when the CTS is unplugged, it's also probably not a ground.

Sounds like you need to get a scanner on it to verify CTS operation.

Check the resistance of the CTS with Shoebox's procedure:

http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#ect

Its possible to get PCM scanning software that shows you the readings from the CTS, and shows you whether the PCM has commanded the fans to either low or high speed.

Free software (20 free uses)
