Fan problem

Yes this belongs in tuning.

When my car (95 Z28) reaches about 180 the fan comes on and the check engine light also comes on. The light won't go off until I turn the car off even when the fan cycles off. When I start it up it is off until the fan comes on again. This started happening after I got an updated tune from PCMforLess.

I've tried contacting them but not having much luck. I think they may be responding to an old email address they have on file.

Anyone ever seen a correlation to the fan coming on and throwing a code?

Yes, that is exactly what it is supposed to do. When you have a trouble code, the fans come on. Normal.

Fix the code problem and your fans will go off.

Oh, ok I had it backwards. I've got tunercat, AKM cable, the different freebies and Datamaster with 16 logs left. I've been surfing for stuff on programming all evening and am not much more enlightened but it'll come. Been to your site, Injuneer's and Franken's tonight and many more.

And what does DataMaster show the code to be?

This isn't necessarily a "tuning" problem. You have a problem elsewhere, setting a code and turning on the SES light and the fans. Find the problem. Start by identifying the code.

The only Dtc error Datamaster shows is the MALF 23 Mat Low I asked about in another post.

Sooo, decided to get busy finding the sorce of the DTC code I was getting. I pull the plug to the IAT with plans to measure the resistance. I glance at first and see no connector prongs. Thinking they are recessed deep into the housing I get a flashlight and look and there is nothing. All I have is a hollow IAT. That pretty much pointed out the problem. Went to my handy dandy AutoZone, got a new IAT and mounted it.

My previous IAT mounted on my Vortec elbow right before the throttle body. It was plastic and I cut threads into it and screwed it in. Because the new IAT was brass and not plastic, and not threaded thus able to fit, I decided to do a mod I read about to prevent heat soak with the IAT. I mounted my IAT into the K&N cold air intake chamber, extended the wires, and applied a bit of silicon sealer. Fnally I plugged the old IAT hole in the elbow.

Took the car for a drive and no SES light and no code. Imagine that!

I have no idea where the innards are, probably burned up, but maybe they fell out when I unplugged it sometime. I have no idea.

Went for a drive, recorded my pcm activity with Freescan and am ready to start digesting the data.

Thanks to Shoebox and Injuneer for replying and pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks for listenng.
