Dumb question

I posted in the tech section about my bad day at the dyno. Everyone said I was running rich(black smoke, smelt like gas). I know about the ALDL cable and Freescan. What eles would I need to see exactly what my car is doing? With the items metioned above, will this get me enough data to send to the programer to get my program more tuned in? Car is a 93.

Don't they have a wideband O2 sensor where you dyno? That's what you need.

Yeah. I guess I let another member talk me out of it. He said it just lets you know if disaster is on the way. Something if disaster is coming, is it better to know and not be able to change it, or not know. I dont rember. It was cold and I had high hopes.

Do some basic diagnostics for rich run, your speed density, so I would look at TPS, ECT, and MAP. A new chip well not fix a sensor problem. Are you getting a SES?? You can pull codes from your car at the ALDL with a paperclip.

I have checked MAP and TPS. What is ECT. No SES lights. I know how to pull the codes. Only getting 12, which means it is working.

ECT=engine coolant temperture. 32f=9420 ohms,104f=1459 ohms and 194f=241 ohms. If the ect is reading low you well have a rich condition.
If you can get a cable and laptop, download a copy of TTS datamaster, it gives you 20 free log runs.
Have you checked fuel pressure?
