It needs to be faster.
Re: It needs to be faster.
You'll most likely have to rejet the carb and change the springs in the distributor. Honestly, set a goal for yourself or you'll just keep spending and spending on things you don't need.
Re: It needs to be faster.
yeah right now i just think im going to get it tuned, theres just a lot i have to do and i have trouble wraping my head around it. I will go with a new set of heads, but i have no idea where to start, new cam, new rockers and rods. New water pump, pulleys, alternator, distributor, coil, ignition, inner fenders...
I just looked at wheels and tires, and that at about two grand, for the torque thrust 2 classics, that should accent the flat black real nice, especially after all the body work.
Theres just so much.

I run a 750 on my 69. No complaints. 8.209 in the 1/8th with 1.84 60' time
Re: It needs to be faster.
Yeah get it tuned first and go from there. The Holley 750 VS carb is fine, don't waste $$ on a new carb. Down the road upgrade to a 383sbc or if you can find a good 400 block, build a 406sbc. Purchase the best set of heads you can afford ( 195 cc+ AFR, Trick Flow etc.) and match a cam, intake, carb, stall, gears, etc. Then work on setting up your suspension, sticky tires, etc. It's only $$ after all! Have fun!!

Re: It needs to be faster.
well im only going to put the best parts on it, even if it means waiting to save the money, i want it done right, and this message board is deffinatly an outlet for making a badass camaro.
Re: It needs to be faster.
I'd leave that motor in it for now and start accumulating all the parts for a complete new motor. When you have everything, assemble it and swap motors.
I'd HIGHLY recommend a 406 with the best heads you can afford.

Re: It needs to be faster.
Any ideal of what times your currently running? It would be nice to have a basis to start with. There is always the 150 hp the easy way..........NOS. But it wouldn't hurt to have some forged pistons in there.
Re: It needs to be faster.
At the moment its sitting, i got pulled over, and the police told me they would give me a ticket if they saw me drive it again, long story short, i need new headers and exaust first... i guess its just a little too loud for them.
As for what times im running, i have no idea. havent been able to bring it to the track yet, but if i were to guess i would say low 13's high 12's???
And ive decided i don't want to do nos, i just want pure unadultarated power.
But as far as a build up i will keep you guys in mind too, getting new heads, pistions, rockers, cam, get it ported.
It will be a while, but thats what is going to happen first and foremost.

You say your car right now is running low 13s, high 12s....well that's not too bad considering your car would need to put down around 300 RWHP (or close to it) to run those times. That is alot more power than a miild 350 would do. Maybe your under-estimating what you have now.
Either way, you need to open that engine up, find out the condition of the internals and what the compression ratio is and what cam is in there, etc.
As stated in a previous post, buy the best set of heads you can afford then match the cam and compression to head flow data (don't forget about stall speed and gears and etc).
You asked about a stroker...It's really not hard to build a 450HP stroker (383-385). Major ingredients....10.5:1 short block, medium sized cam (230ish duration), and a good set of heads (Pro1 or AFR or Brodix are the only ones I would use) will get you close if not more than 450.
Good luck with your decisions...

Low 13's, high 12's is damn respectable if those times are accurate. Many people overestimate what their car runs (and what it has for HP). It seems like everyone I run into says their mild 350sbc has 400+HP and runs 12's!
Get it to a track and see what she does. Good luck!
