Car doesn't crank well

Car doesn't crank well
In the mornings(getting cold now in NC)-The only way my car will crank is if I hold the gas petal all the way down- Also when I put it into reverse-It doesn't catch for about a minute-I've checked the fluid. Do you think my transmission could be going out?Thanx
