Building a 1000hp boosted 454
Hey guys, new to this forum.
I have been researching for a few months what parts I should use for my build and figured I'd try to get some advice from this group as it seems there is some great knowledge here.
My goal is to build a semi-reliable 700-800hp non-stroker 454 (before boost) for a 4000lb awd street truck. I wanted to pair it with a 6l80e but am leaning more towards a 4l80e now. I want to procharge it, maybe 15lbs is safe on a forged rotating assembly? Maybe more? I also plan on eventually adding nitrous, but not routinely using it. Probably only use it on the big races, hide the tank behind my seat 😉
So far, my thoughts have been a 1964 to 1975 Mark IV block, 11:1 CR so I can still run pump gas (93 octane). Bore it 60 over with a forged rotating assembly, and use all arp hardware. What are your opinion on 2 bolt vs 4 bolt mains, deck heights, etc? Big blocks do great with tunnel rams, but still researching which style would work best and what size carbs I should use. Really wanting to do Holley EFI or sniper. Maybe there is a better way I could go with all this?
I'm really needing help figuring out what to put in this engine. For example, heads, rods, cam, etc. Would a 6000 - 6500 rpm blower cam be good with this? I thought about calling comp cams to figure some of this out too but really need some advice as an inexperienced engine builder.
I also know that at 1000hp weird things happen, so things to prolong the engine like certain windage trays, different style oil pumps, block reinforcement, etc have to be done. Any input helps a lot! I really just don't want to put it all together and blow it up 3 months in, but I do want to build the best engine I can without just bolting pretty catalog parts on.

Re: Building a 1000hp boosted 454
You're welcome to post here even though I don’t see any Camaro/F-Body content. I will caution you that getting a response will be hit or miss. While this site claims 100,000+ members, very few are active. Seems to me that there are no more than a dozen of us who still help out on a fairly regular basis. And most of the topics are related to the LT1 SBC used in the 1993-1997 4th Gen Camaro/Firebird, Corvette, and B-Body. Seems like everybody has abandoned bulletin boards for Facebook.
Good luck with your project. Sounds ambitious.
