BBC race motor - newest version rocks!

I have a 60 over methanol 454 in my 27T. If you look at you can see the following. Keep in mind that I am running a PG with a 5,500 rpm stall, so to convert to engine hp you need to add 20-25%. The heads are ported OEM aluminum rectangle port. The manifold is a medial rise single plane.

Green graph: As I bought the motor. 800CFM Holley, flat tappet cam, 1 7/8" headers = 472rwhp.
Red: Convert to EFI with a 2000CFM TB = 524rwhp.
Blue: Convert to custom solid roller cam (my design), 2 1/4" headers, port intake some more = 627rwhp!! (~800hp at the motor).

Car is ~1,800lbs, should run mid 8's this year. I am psyched to the max.

Could you save that as a jpg instead of bmp? It takes foreverrr to load.

Great looking numbers though! Looks like it will be less than a ton of fun.

Damn,nice # man...looks like a big block to me!

So are you going to run the EFI setup on alky?

Know where another set of those aluminum heads you have are? Id love to have a set for my car as I am changing to a much bigger cam this season...the magnum 292 was just too streetable lol.

Again, congrads on the #'s,and in a car that light...**** outta be a handfull!!

I wish I could get my 540 on the dyno just to see the power curve. I'm putting about 750 to the wheels based on weight and mph then corrected for the air conditions with some dyno formulas. Uncorrected I'm still getting about 650 to the wheels.

Dropping it into a 1400-1800 pound altered would be a dream. Even a FED.

I ran the alky with EFI last year. It's a great combo. The only downside is cost. The system is an Electromtove TEC3r. It replaces the carb, distributor, igntion box, and coil. Those items run ~$1,500 new and the EFI (with injectors) is in the $3,500 range. So, it's a hit of ~$2,000. But there are lots of advantages.

As I tried to indicate above, this is no exotic engine other than the EFI. I do have a Dart block and once I get the $$$ together for a set of heads suitable for a big bore I plan to build up something really stout. That's one of the beauties of the EFI system. A couple of minutes with the PC and you are good to go, even with a whole new combo. This year, we just guestimated 15% more hp, so before even starting it up just added 15% fuel to the top. Stated it up, warmed it, shut it down. Checked for leaks, adjusted the valves and put it on the dyno. Tried the first program and it worked good. Added 5% more fuel, worked better. Added 5% more, it slowed down, so went back to program #2. Made one run with more timing and one with less. Went back to the original timing. Took an hour and half just due to time needed for cool down and we never got our hands dirty! Compared to the old way - going to the track with a box full of carb parts and a timing light, this was a breeze!

Sounds like a nice setup. How much does yours weigh?

I am new to the big block thing, but it's nice how relatively easy it is to make hp. Mine's a 60 over 454 with ported stock heads and it is really quite mild. Other than the CR, you could run it in a street car. It idles at 1,200rpm and is completely drivable. The only exotic parts besides the EFI are a set of custom pistons, it's a long story why I needed them but the bottom line is that you could reproduce the long block for $7,500 bucks and it's dead nuts reliable. A 750-800hp SB would need a set of heads that nearly cost what the whole big block runs.

Last fall before I started my back half project, race weight was 3085 pounds. I'll get it across a scale this Monday to see what race weight I'll be doing my 2007 season calculations with. My guess is that it's going to be a bit heavier. With the back half, there's a lot more roll cage tubing put into the car. At least it will balance the car out a bit better. Last year it was a 60/40 nose heavy ratio.

The only thing still stock on my engine is the alternator. There isn't a single stock component in or on the engine now. 100% aftermarket race parts.

I agree on those high HP small blocks. Yes it can be done but at a huge expense compared to building a mild BBC.

Some pics of the new paint job (looks even better with the front fenders on, but they aren't ready yet).

I was never a roadster fan but I'd love an altered or a FED.

Finally got my car scaled. I shaved 23 pounds off the back after doing the back half. Race weight is now 3062 pounds. I was sure I was going to add weight.
